View Full Version : Cinemax Renews "Strike Back" for 7th and Final Season
JamesG 12-08-2016, 05:56 PM "Strike Back" Reboot Gets Series Order By Cinemax & Sky, Sets Core Cast

December 8, 2016
"Strike Back" is back. A new incarnation of the popular action series with new characters and a new cast has been greenlighted by Cinemax and Sky to film in 2017.
Alin Sumarwata, Aussie Daniel MacPherson, Roxanne McKee and Warren Brown are set to star in the new season of the show — its sixth overall and fifth on Cinemax — from the franchise’s executive producer Andy Harries of Left Bank Pictures.
I hear Harries — who was behind the original season-long "Strike Back" on Sky starring Richard Armitage and Andrew Lincoln, and the Cinemax-Sky collaboration, toplined by Sullivan Stapleton and Philip Winchester, which ran for four seasons — had the idea for another reboot, which both networks embraced.
I hear the new "Strike Back" is evolving from the buddy cop formula of the original into a diverse ensemble in the mold of The Fast and the Furious franchise. And while the previous incarnations were focused largely on the remnants of Al-Qaeda, the storylines of the new "Strike Back" will reflect the rise of ISIS.
There are no current plans for Stapleton or Winchester to reprise their roles in guest starring stints but I hear that is a possibility.
In the new "Strike Back", written by Jack Lothian, disavowed and disbanded, the Section program is restored in order to track down a notorious terrorist following a brutal prison break. Tasked with covert military intelligence and high-risk operations, the resurrected unit embarks on a lethal manhunt that will uncover a vast web of interconnected criminal activity.
As the team journey across the Middle East and Europe, they uncover a deadly conspiracy which threatens to overwhelm them all and change the face of modern warfare forever.
Sumarwata plays Gracie Novin, a gear-head who is looking to make the step up. Genuine, honest to the point of bluntness, she’s the heart and soul of the team.
MacPherson plays Samuel Wyatt, a bar-room philosopher who works best alone and has no intention of being dragged into a team situation.
McKee plays Natalie Roberts, who comes from a military family, excels at psychological profiles and seeking weaknesses in others, although she might be blinded to her own fault-lines.
Brown is Daniel “Mac” Macallister, a man of his word, affable, physically capable, and driven by a desire to avenge the team he’s lost.
Lothian, who serves as showrunner, executive produces with Harries and Sharon Hughff for Left Bank Pictures.
Michael J. Bassett will serve as director and executive producer, Bill Shephard as producer.

The real original series was the 6-ep. "Chris Ryan's Strike Back" from 2010. That one featured Richard Armitage and current "The Walking Dead" star Andrew Lincoln. It doesn't have a home release for the U.S.
What we know of as "Strike Back" in the U.S. is actually the 2nd series that's split up in "different series" in the U.K. For us Strike Back: Season One is Strike Back: Project Dawn for the U.K. It just has different names overseas.

Thanks for the info! Maybe after all is done; the real original will be shown in Netflix or Amazon Prime or be available for purchase in the North America market!
JamesG 04-26-2017, 01:16 PM "Strike Back": Cinemax Rounds Out Cast as Season 5 Production Begins
by Denise Petski
April 26, 2017
Nina Sosanya (David Brent: Life on the Road, Love Actually), Katherine Kelly (The Night Manager, Happy Valley) and Trevor Eve (Death of a Farmer, Troy) round out the Season 5 cast of Cinemax and Sky’s reboot of "Strike Back".
They join previously announced new series stars Warren Brown as “Mac” McAllister, Daniel MacPherson as Samuel Wyatt, Roxanne McKee as Natalie Reynolds and Alin Sumarwata as Gracie Novin.
Filming has begun on the new season — its sixth overall and fifth on Cinemax – on location in Jordan and Hungary.
In the new Season 5, written by Jack Lothian, disavowed and disbanded, the Section program is restored in order to track down a notorious terrorist following a brutal prison break. Tasked with covert military intelligence and high-risk operations, the resurrected unit embarks on a lethal manhunt that will uncover a vast web of interconnected criminal activity.
As the team journeys across the Middle East and Europe, they uncover a deadly conspiracy that threatens to overwhelm them all and change the face of modern warfare forever.
Sosanya will play Adeena Donovan, Kelly is Jane Lowry and Eve will portray Morgan Ives.
"Strike Back’s" confidential consultants, who work in the field of counterterrorism, will also return for the new season. They provide insight into the highly secretive world of “Black Ops”, and also train the cast in battle tactics, weaponry and combat, as the lead actors do the majority of their own stunts.
"Strike Back" is executive produced by Cameron Roach for Sky and Andy Harries for Left Bank Pictures along with Sharon Hughff. Also returning for season five are director/executive producer Michael Bassett and showrunner/writer Jack Lothian, who also executive produces.

Section 20’s work isn’t done just yet: "Strike Back" will return for Season 6, Cinemax announced Tuesday. The renewal comes ahead of the Season 5 finale, which will air on Friday, April 6.
“The rebirth of Strike Back has reestablished Cinemax as a destination for adrenalized, entertaining action series,” Kary Antholis, president of HBO Miniseries and Cinemax programming, said via statement.

HarryWild 04-11-2018, 02:31 AM The Season 4 and the season 5 finale are pretty similar in terms of the ending. I just am so tired of having "The Bourne plot theme" get used again and again in TV and movie spy episonge type action dramas. I just wondering in real life; what the head of MI6 and the CIA think of this?
Looking forward to seeing what happens in the first episode in Season 6! Will they be hunted down or looked upon as heroes by MI6?
HarryWild 04-29-2018, 12:23 PM It seems like season 6, the Strike Back team will be on the run from their own MI6 is the rumor! They are fugitives on the run and will become mercenaries. Kind of figure that how the continuation after Season 5 ended. Not happy!
Somebody totaled up all the CIA agents that Jason Bourne killed or CIA superiors order to be killed in his movies and it was astonishing 76. He took out 5 Russian KGB agents too!
JamesG 05-31-2018, 12:04 PM Jamie Bamber & Yasemin Allen Join "Strike Back" as Season 6 Production Begins
by Denise Petski
May 31, 2018
"Battlestar Galactica" alum Jamie Bamber and Yasemin Allen (Water and Fire) have signed on to the cast of Cinemax’s "Strike Back", joining returning stars Warren Brown, Daniel MacPherson and Alin Sumarwata.
Filming has begun on the 10-episode Season 6, which will be shot entirely in Malaysia.
In the new season, when a Russian bomber crashes in the South China Sea, the covert special-ops soldiers of Section 20 — Thomas “Mac” McAllister (Brown), Samuel Wyatt (MacPherson) and Gracie Novin (Sumarwata) — are sent on a mission to investigate. There, they cross paths with Katrina Zarkova (Allen), a rogue Russian operative with questionable loyalties.
Under orders of the new commanding officer, Col. Alexander Coltrane (Bamber), Section 20 pursues stolen contents of the Russian jet across Southeast Asia. They will work alongside the Malaysian police to shut down a Triad gang in Kuala Lumpur, uncover a corrupt plot by a wealthy Indian businesswoman running for Parliament and plunge into the jungles of the Golden Triangle in Myanmar, facing off against mercenary drug agents and terrifying warlords, as they uncover a conspiracy that threatens to push the world to the brink of global conflict.

James,
Thank for the season 6 update! There is no mention of Roxanne McKee who play Captain Natalie Reynolds, the immediate leader of the group? She must have gone in hiding or London head got her assasinated? Really like Captain Reynolds!
Updated: It looks like the producers have decided to drop Roxanne McKee for season 7! McKee twitter account still has a big heading banner of Strike Back! but no more updated posts since early April. I think she was notified at that time. She was looking forward to shooting season 7 too!
Roxanne McKee Strike Back twitter content is gone!
HarryWild 07-13-2018, 10:34 PM Looks like Roxanne McKee has been written out for the Season 7! I will miss her! In time we will know what was behind her not being renewed for Season 7! Season 6 did experience low viewership in the U.S. market.

JamesG 02-27-2019, 03:22 PM "Strike Back" Renewed for Seventh & Final Season at Cinemax
by Nellie Andreeva
February 27, 2019
Cinemax’s signature original series, "Strike Back", has been picked up for a seventh season, which will be the action drama’s last. This is an early renewal for the series, which is currently airing its sixth season, slated to wrap its run March 29.
"Strike Back" has been a legacy series for Cinemax. It was the network’s first primetime drama series, which launched Cinemax’s foray into original programming eight years ago.
After a short break following Season 4, "Strike Back" was summoned back to lead Cinemax’s rebrand as a destination for fun, mostly action-packed, original programming. The rebooted acrioneer kicked off Cinemax’s relaunch last February with a fifth season that moved away from the buddy format of the original series to a diverse ensemble in the vein of the Fast & the Furious franchise.
The show follows the explosive escapades of Section 20, an elite, multinational, covert special ops team, as it spans the globe fighting a vast web of interconnected criminal and terrorist activity.
“Strike Back established Cinemax as a destination for adrenalized, entertaining action series nearly a decade ago,” said Kary Antholis, president, HBO Miniseries and Cinemax Programming.
“It is with sincere gratitude for the service of all of the past and present members of Section 20 – both in front of and behind the camera – that we send the team of on one last mission to save the world from annihilation.”
“I am delighted we’re coming back for a final season,” said EP Jack Lothian.
“Strike Back is a show that’s always raised the bar for small screen action, and we’re looking forward to doing that one last time. There are plenty of twists and turns ahead, but I can promise one thing — we’re going out with a bang.”
