remember this case where the two sisters were killed and it looked like their brother did it? He was acquitted though which means he can never be charged again.

this is the only recent article I could find

bits of new information I found

Not long after the trial, Donny found that it was impossible for him to continue to live in Humboldt County. Too many people were sure he did it, the umbrella of suspicion that surrounded him was just to great to over come. He eventually changed his name and moved away from Willow Creek and all he knew in Humboldt County. He has never gone back and for all practical purposes has complete dropped off the grid. However, rumors swirling around about him, place him living in Happy Camp, California with three daughters of his own.

The whole truth about this hideous crime may never be known. A jury has acquitted Donny Hansen, but his family has not. His parents, sister, and other loved ones are convinced that Donny is responsible for the death of his sisters. For Han’s, Betty, and the rest of the family there is no going back.

“You go on but life is never the same. And you can build a new house or buy a new car, but you can’t… bring back the girls. And all we have left is memories. And it’s really rough.”, said Betty.

It’s been been 30 years since Jill and Julie Hansen were ripped from their family and from the world. Their parents and sister have done their best to go on with her lives… Hans and Betty retired from their Logging Supply Business and have moved away from Humboldt County. They now enjoy a home filled with furry canine children and one large tortuous named, Claws.

Betty has recently battled cancer but it appears that she is in remission and doing well. She will continue to be a beautiful and shinning light in the lives of those who know and love her, just as she has always been.

Hans and Betty have been blessed with two beautiful Grandchildren, a boy and a girl. Their Grandchildren are teens now. And their granddaughter is approximately the same age as the twins when they were taken away…

Donnie Hanson is one of the guiltiest people ever interviewed on UM (and that is saying something).

I will never understand how Donnie was acquitted. My heart still goes out to Betty and Hans. Their story is gut-wrenching.

The one big thing about this case that gets me is what Julie remembered, she said she came out of her room and heard an explosion, felt an extreme blain in hear stomach and when she felt her belly it felt like a bowl full of jelly,I have read in a write up she got up because she smelt smoke, now through out all of this from her recoletions, she either fell down or hunched over in any event she would have had to walk or whatever right passed the shooter to get out,now idk about you guys but if your gonna off your whole family you just gonna let one go right by u and do nothing? Makes no sense to me.I believe jill and jill alone was the target(she was the only one murdered),Julie was shot indecently.

Hi. Using my newspapersarchive.com subscription, I found two articles from a northern California newspaper on the Hansen case that I do not think have been posted here before. One of the articles features lengthy excerpts from a lengthy interview with Donnie about a month after he was acquitted.

I cannot find a way to attach these PDFs to this message. If you are interested in seeing them, send me a private message with your email address and I will send them along. (In this world of way too many spam emails, I promise that sending you the articles will be the only time I email you unless you have a question for me.)

Post/upload to imgur and then copy/paste the link. I would love to see this!

Hi again. I can't seem to get Imgur to work, sorry.

I'll type the articles out as soon as I can (one is rather lengthy and as much as I wish all I did was research things like old UM stories all day, I have other things I need to do) and then post again. Sorry for the premature post.

This case won't ever be solved because Donny won't admit his guilt and it's clear as day he did it because if he didn't then the guys who did it had the luck of the Irish thanks to Donny since they had a tank full of gas and a loaded shotgun!!! Donny did it and my only guess to motive is he wanted to be the one true heir of the family.
