Andrew Sachs, who played Manuel on the classic British sitcom "Fawlty Towers", has died. He was 86 years old.

Sachs died Nov. 23 after a four-year battle with dementia, according to his wife Melody, and was buried on Thursday. The Daily Mail first reported the news.

Sachs starred alongside John Cleese on "Fawlty Towers", playing the bumbling Spanish waiter Manuel at a quaint English hotel owned by Cleese’s Basil Fawlty.

"Fawlty Towers" only ran for a dozen episodes in 1975 and 1979, but still stands as one of the most beloved comedies in British TV history.

Cleese remembered Sachs in a series of tweets on Thursday:

“A very sweet gentle and kind man and a truly great farceur. I first saw him on stage in Habeus Corpus in 1973. I could not have found a better Manuel.”

Que ?! Dead ?! Has to be a misunderstanding. He and Basil are still at it..just a little slower, maybe.

Even after all these years I still can't believe he wasn't Spanish. He was hysterical.

He was so believeable at being Spanish that I thought he was. Anyway, I will miss him. R.I.P.

When I watched his interview on the Fawlty Towers DVD, I realized for the first time that he wasn't Spanish.

He was truly a remarkable actor.

I strictly remember him as "Manuel" on Faulty Towers. I never knew his real name until now.
I was surprised to hear that he was not really Hispanic or Spanish or Latino.
I also heard that , originally, "Manuel" was going to be a character with a different ethnicity and accent, such as German or something like that.

I guess he would have played the character as well.
