HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) -
Hawaii actor and kumu hula Keo Woolford died Monday. He was 49.
Friends said he suffered a stroke Friday.
His loss has rocked Hawaii's hula and performing arts community.
Woolford was a busy man active on social media, weighing in on politics, thriving in his stage and film career while staying connected to his culture.
This past summer, Woolford took over for Robert Cazimero as kumu hula of Halau Na Kamalei o Lililehua.
Kumu Vicki Takamine Holt was at the ceremony.
"Our whole community, I mean we're all in shock and stunned at our loss," she said. "He had accomplished so much in his very short lifespan and I expected much more from him for his future."
Woolford had also earned big roles on stage as the King of Siam at the London Palladium, and starred in more than 350 performances. He was in "Godzilla" and "Hawaii Five-0." And his one-man play, "I-Land" led to a successful film project, "The Haumana."
