What did you think of this character?

I think he was called Mr. Rulebook or something similar. Wasn't one of his ideas [rules to follow] was to keep every compartment on the truck locked up? Apparently, he had rotating partners because of pure friction he created in the department.

I think the Brice returned for another episode about some type of rules committee.

Personally, I would've lost my patience and temper. And I would likely get canned after punching him in the nose.

Yep, he was kind of a jerk. You want to respect him for following the rule book, but I couldn't stand his attitude and smugness. One scene really makes this point. After he starts locking the compartment doors on the squad, when responding to a call Roy tries to open one and almost hurts his hand. Brice then remarks "It's not my fault if you have a bad memory!" Later in the episode, Capt. Stanley asks Roy how Brice is working out. Roy says something like "Oh fine, just fine. I may end up punching him, but everything is fine!"

He appeared in three episodes, I think.

That first one where Johnny is injured by the hit-and-run driver and Brice is sent to 51 to fill in.

Then he's on the one that you mentioned, about the Rules Commitee where he wants to conduct all of the meetings following "Parliamentary Procedures." Seems like later in the episode Johnny and Roy discover that, according to Parliamentary Procedures, one person can move to change the rules and if another person seconds the motion, it stands. That's how they put an end to the nonsense.

Then he's on one episode where he always ends up getting press coverage and Johnny gets jealous. At the end of that episode he's trapped in a fire and Johnny and Roy rescue him. Then as he's coming out a news reporter interviews HIM instead of Johnny and Roy.

So yeah, I agree with you. Seems like wherever you work there's at least one "Brice" on the staff and yeah, most people wish they could haul off and belt him.

I'll just add that a few years after Emergency, the actor who played Brice was killed in a skiing accident, he was only about 35. I think his name was Jim Richardson? Very sad.

Oh that's so tragic to die in a skiing accident.

Thanks for the heads up about a third appearance in the series. Hopefully, I can see it before it falls off the schedule of ME.

I think Brice actually brought out the best of Roy's good-natured character. Even though Webb was only a producer, I think he had major influence in character development. I think they tried hard to convey that Brice was really a good guy even though he was a real square. I don't think that Webb wanted the audience to loathe Brice just because Brice followed the rules to the extreme.

Technically, Brice made one more appearance. In the movie that was made up of flashbacks ("Best Rescues of Emergency") they have Johnny and Roy being promoted to Captain. "Craig Brice" is also promoted however the actor that portrayed him was a black guy. I always thought that was really odd.

While he might have had some good points and perhaps should have been followed on how to do things he did seem unkind.
