When I was watching Catch 21 on GSN I happened to see a holiday commercial for Hershey's Kisses and i'm curious to know more info about this commercial? When the commercial starts it features rows of red and green Hershey's Kisses dancing and playing the Christmas carol We Wish You A Merry Christmas and it's my favorite holiday commercial. What year did Hershey's debut this commercial and what else can you tell me about the commercial?

I know it's been around for MANY years. It's sort of like the Cadbury bunny commercial for Easter.

I've seen the kisses commercial every Christmas as long as I can remember. I did a quick search and apparently it's been aired every year since 1989.

I saw the Hershey Kisses commercial before. You know it's Christmas when you see that. I didn't know how old it was.

The Hershey Kisses holiday commercial that I saw yesterday debuted in 1989? I never knew that Hershey's Kisses started to get creative with it's commercials for Christmas because I always liked the Hershey's Kisses dancing and playing and I wondered how they animated the Hershey's Kisses to play and dance so well

The commercial first aired in 1989? I didn't realize it was that old. I was 20 that year, but when a commercial only airs around the holidays I think it's easy to not notice it at first. I really don't remember being that aware of it until the late 90s but it's one of my favorite Christmas commercials.

That's my favorite Christmas commercial, it always puts a smile on my face. Mostly because it's simple and sweet and features no obnoxious characters trying to outdo each other buying presents.

I believe that commercial advertisement (or "commercial") actually debuted within the past five years and that it would based upon a similar one that debuted in the year 1989.

Did the Hershey's Kisses Holiday Commercial get updated with a new look this year? Because when I have seen it shown during commercial breaks of Who Wants To Be A Millionaire and Let's Make A Deal I noticed that the commercial now has a beige/yellow background
Is this a new version of the commercial?

According to a YouTuber (actually, a person that was involved in it himself):

It came out in 1990. I recorded it in the spring of that year and the 1990 Christmas season was its debut.

This was recorded in the spring of 1990 and first aired, Christmas of that year, this is the 24th year. I can't remember if we used Malmark Bells. The bells were a two octave set that I borrowed from the Los Altos First Lutheran Church, where I used to direct music and helped start its bell choir. The clappers were adjustable, and that was a feature of one of the bell companies. The two gentlemen that hired me to do this and produce the commercial have since passed, Andy Kulberg and Chris Michie.

So no, it did not air in 1989.

Here's another fun fact:

One more thing: We recorded the final audio for this at the fabled Record Plant in Sausalito, CA. I felt like I was going back in time as the decor from the early 70s was still there. It's great that this 15" commercial has touched so many people! Andy and Chris would be proud.

Fact about the studio:

I knew that studio as "The Plant," Arne Frager, Operator. GREAT guy! Santana was recording in the days when I produced USAF Band recordings there. Didn't know you were on this commercial, bro! No surprise. Chevy

Could you provide a hyperlink to where you had found this information (it might not be correct)?

This site may be wrong but it says the commercial debuted in 1989: http://www.delish.com/holiday-recipes/christmas/a45224/history-hersheys-kisses-holiday-commercial/

A few other places give the same year. I haven't seen the new one with the updated background that LaBestia is talking about, but it's very possible they finally updated it.

I'm also curious to see the source on the Youtube account Mikaela posted.
