"The Dick Van Dyke Show" is coming back to TV in living color. CBS, which colorized episodes of "I Love Lucy" during the holidays and last May’s sweep, is using the same strategy with the classic 1960s series.
The episodes “That’s My Boy??” and “Coast to Coast Big Mouth” will air back-to-back beginning at 8 PM on Sunday, December 11 on CBS.

Marvo301 11-17-2016, 03:10 PM Those are two of the funniest episodes in the TDVDS cannon. Although I love this show in its original black and white it will be fun to see these two classic episodes in color!
mets82 11-17-2016, 04:22 PM Good news.
PhoenixAcres 11-18-2016, 02:08 PM That should be fun and I'll be looking forward to it. Even though I prefer the original format for regular viewing, I've really enjoyed when CBS colorizes their older shows as holiday specials. Hopefully they keep it up for years to come.
ChrisTV 11-19-2016, 11:44 PM So it's Christmas & CBS is not airing colorized "The Alan Brady Show Presents"
They should have colorized The Honeymooners "'Twas The Night Before Christmas" and saved DVD for the spring.

Yeah, it looked like that Christmas ep. of the DVD show would be one of the colorized eps. in Dec., but it's not.
tlc38tlc38 12-03-2016, 09:39 AM I'm not a real big fan of TDVDS but I will be watching this simply because there's nothing else on TV that's worth watching.
PhoenixAcres 12-03-2016, 08:54 PM It is strange they're not showing the Christmas episode. It can't be a music rights issue or anything because I remember MeTV showing it a while back.
Hazel Anyday 12-03-2016, 10:13 PM I would love for CBS to colorize and release the entire D.Van Dyke Show onto a beautiful big colorized set! Now that's a Christmas wish.
But as for the measly colorized sample we've got coming, really the Christmas episode has always been one of the weakest examples of the D.V.Dyke Show. I still want to see it as part of the Complete Colorized D.V.Dyke Show DVD set, but I'm happy with the itty bit of color Dick coming.
treky 12-09-2016, 04:59 PM I'm also looking forward to it. I was against colorizing black-and -white shows but now I'm not since I read the reason they do it. (it's because parents want to expose their kids to these shows but most kids won't watch them because they're in black-and-white.
Also with DCD Carl Reiner was in on the colorization so it should be good.
LittleRickyII 12-11-2016, 01:05 AM Just a reminder that "The Dick Van Dyke Show" airs in color TOMORROW NIGHT (SUNDAY, DECEMBER 11).

Thanks!
treky 12-11-2016, 02:54 AM thanx! I've already set our DVR.

Me too.
Hawkee 12-11-2016, 06:43 AM I heard about this and saw the advertisement when I was watching Let's Make A Deal yesterday and I think it's a very smart and ingenious idea for CBS to do and just as they did with the I Love Lucy colorized Christmas specials I think CBS will release the colorized The Dick Van Dyke Show episodes as exclusive episodes on tablet apps as well. I truly think that CBS has really outdone itself by releasing episodes of classic sitcoms in colorized versions and based on the successes of the I Love Lucy specials and now with The Dick Van Dyke Show I think more classic sitcoms will soon follow down the road for CBS

likewow 12-11-2016, 04:22 PM I'll be watching for sure! It's a real treat to see an old favorite show in a new way, and we've all wondered what the sets and wardrobe really looked like. This is the next best thing!
treky 12-11-2016, 06:00 PM like I said in my previous post, we've already seen what the living room looks like in color; from the reunion show in 2003.
Hazel Anyday 12-11-2016, 07:47 PM I'm extremely happy the ratings were so gangbusters for the recent colorized I Love Lucy. This really bodes well for more color b/w goodies coming our way. I'm surprised though that CBS still hasn't colorized the Christmas episode of the Honeymooners Classic 39 series. It's a natural for this time of year. I would really love to buy the COMPLETE Honeymooners 39 and I Love Lucy & Dennis The Menace in full colorized complete sets. Also I'd love to see the first 2 seasons of My Favorite Martian and first season of Hazel in color. Hey, I can dream can't I?
The show is delayed in NYC because football went into overtime.
PhoenixAcres 12-11-2016, 10:33 PM I noticed they cut several lines of dialogue out here and there - no surprise though.
All in all this was a great colorization and very believable. Hope they do it next year as well.
LittleRickyII 12-12-2016, 03:29 PM In the overnight ratings, football ruled the night, but in terms of total number of viewers, the TDVDS special bested everything else, placing #2 in the 8:00 to 9:00 PM time slot.

The article notes that CBS's ratings share throughout the night for the key 18-49 demographic was "soft" compared to the competition, including the movie Frozen. So I guess that means the relatively high number of viewers for TDVDS probably scewed towards an older crowd.
Marvo301 12-12-2016, 03:33 PM Was anyone besides me disappointed that the colorized episodes were edited versions and not the complete episodes?
Smilings 12-12-2016, 05:47 PM Football had the most viewers.
Dick Van Dyke was 2nd was 7.41 million.
The Simpsons (FOX) 2.4/ 5.71
Movie: Frozen (ABC) (8-10 p.m.) 1.7/ 6.50
The Dick Van Dyke Show – Now in Living Color! (CBS) – S 0.7/7.41 million viewers
treky 12-12-2016, 07:38 PM well, just as I feared-my DVR only recorded part of it because the *** **** football game ran late!!!!
Good news though is CBS has it available on their website.
Chocolate Moose 12-13-2016, 11:08 AM it was fun to see!
