One-time Hit "Duck Dynasty" is Canceled at A&E

"Duck Dynasty" is approaching its last (duck) call.

The Robertson family, the stars of the A&E docu-series, said the show will end in April during a short video announcement after Wednesday's season premiere.

In a statement accompanying the video, the cable network said: "After five years, 130 episodes and one of the biggest hits in the history of cable, the Robertson family and A&E jointly decided that Duck Dynasty, the series, will come to an end after this season."





The statement says "Duck Dynasty" (Wednesday, 9 ET/PT) will end after the current season. New episodes will run through Jan. 18, resuming March 1 with seven more episodes, including the finale on April 12. Although that will be the end of the series, A&E says a series of holiday specials will follow.

After its premiere in 2012, "Duck Dynasty", which follows a Louisiana family that hit it big in the duck-call business, became a TV and cultural phenomenon. By 2013, episodes were drawing more than 10 million viewers.

However, ratings for recent episodes are just a fraction of the earlier numbers, with original episodes from August averaging under 1.5 million viewers.

I really don't like this show much!! my aunt like it a lot!! before my uncle died they went to the Duck Dynasty shop!! were they made the duck calls but they didn't see any one there or nothing! i watched some epsidoes but i just can't seem to watch over & over aging!! im glade that they pray before they eat! i still think its good clean christian show!!

Actually, Duck Dynasty aired 11 seasons over five years (2012-2017); it would run two seasons per year.

Svenfan said that Duck Dynasty was a scripted situation comedy and not a reality show, when in actual fact, it is a reality TV show. I think he was just joking, but when I pointed out the "5 seasons/years" fact on this thread's title, I just took Svenfan's post as a "jab" which it really is, and a bad one at that.

I just saw some articles from Variety and Rolling Stone that said that. If not, whatever. It's scripted regardless. It doesn't matter to me anyhow, but somehow to James28 it means the end of the world that he HAS to be right. Oh, well. He doesn't have to "jab" at me either.

Which does bring a good point. There's a link for this, which might adds confusion whether it's reality or scripted show. Or maybe situation comedy

These both state that it is a sitcom from very well known magazines with excerpts from the cast.

I don't care if it's a reality show or a sitcom, I'm just glad the dang thing is finally ending.
