From her post as Deputy Clementine Johnson on Reno 911! or as one of several raucous Bridesmaids, Wendi McLendon-Covey’s been cracking us up for years. The California native and former Groundlings member always puts her improv skills to great use, both in front of and behind the camera. In addition to guesting on sitcoms like Cougar Town and Rules Of Engagement, McLendon-Covey has also written and produced projects like the 2007 indie comedy Cook-Off! which starred Diedrich Bader, Louie Anderson, and her Bridesmaids co-star Ben Falcone. (McLendon-Covey met her other Bridesmaids cast members Melissa McCarthy and Kristen Wiig while in the Groundlings.)
McLendon-Covey has also made waves as the overbearing, feather-haired mom on ABC’s charming sitcom The Goldbergs. As Beverly, she’s fiercely devoted to her kids, but not above embarrassing them for the fun of it. She recently took on another caretaker role, in Larry Charles’ Army Of One. The film, which is based on real-life Osama Bin Laden hunter Gary Faulkner, sees McLendon-Covey play Marci Mitchell, a reformed hottie and adoptive mother to her niece with cerebral palsy. Marci ends up minding Gary (Nicolas Cage) just as much as her niece, but she doesn’t seem to mind.
