The Doolittle Raid was revenge on Japan for the Attack On Pearl Harbor in 1941. Only 1 surviving Raider remains.

The attack was led by a man named Jimmy Doolittle. Over 80 men volunteered to go with him. Around 16 planes were part of the raid. Mr. Doolittle led airstrikes over Japan and dropped bombs over them too. They eventually left but their planes ran out of fuel so they had to parachute out of the planes. During the whole ordeal , 1 man died parachuting out of the plane, 2 drowned while trying to escape capture , and over half a dozen men were captured and either executed or got life imprisonment.

If anyone is interested, a well-known movie about the bombing is Thirty Seconds Over Tokyo (1944) with Spencer Tracy and Van Johnson. It gets a little melodramatic towards the end but it's a good depiction of the mission.
