Harry Truman
He was born on this date 120 years ago. RIP Harry:(
Crotchety old man and colorful storyteller, he refused to leave the lodge he owned at the base of the Mt. St. Helens volcano in Washington despite eruption warnings, when the mountain blew up he was never seen again
(not to be confused with US president Harry S Truman, of course)
Date of Birth: 10/30/1896
Date of Death: 05/18/1980
Age at Death: 83
Cause of Death:
Volcanic eruption:eek:

I remember him! I think the lesson we can learn from him is that if your stubborn you could make an ash of yourself!

Gidget Grape; Mt. St. Helens in Washington state erupted in 1980. It was a big story back then and made old Harry Truman famous.
My parents went there years later and said that the fallen trees looked like toothpicks. I remember some of the ash from the volcano traveled across the country. We had some of it here in Michigan. This was a big deal!
Here's a photo of the fallen trees .

We were camping on the Oregon coast when the mountain blew, my oldest sister who was back home called to tell us about it.
We lived in Vancouver, WA. Ash was everywhere, it came down like snow. We had to wear masks when walking to and from school. The worst was it was in the grass, and in the streets, we had to scrape up shovels full of ash to keep it from going in the storm drains.
Harry definitely became a local legend, I even remember watching the movie with Art Carney playing the part of Harry.
Oh, and I still have a little VW Bug, and a van made from Mt St Helens ash.

Wow! You were really close to things! As I stated above there was a little ash fallout where I live in Mid- Michigan.
I know shouldn't laugh but on deadoralive.com they list Harry Truman's cause of death as "volcanic eruption". Poor Harry! What a way to go! May the old codger rest in peace.(what was left of him)
