Antenna TV Adds The Joey Bishop Show and Good Morning, World To Its 2107 Lineup

October 17, 2016 – Antenna TV, Tribune Broadcasting’s multicast network is pleased to announce beginning January 2nd, The Joey Bishop Show and Good Morning, World will join Antenna TV’s schedule as the network continues to expand its programming lineup.

The Joey Bishop Show starred Rat-Pack member Joey Bishop as Joey Barnes, a harried talk show host. Executive produced by Danny Thomas, the 30-minute sitcom originally aired between 1961-1965 and Antenna TV is thrilled to add the show’s entire four seasons to its lineup, including the 32 episode first season (in black & white) which was transferred from 35mm film to make its debut on Antenna TV.

Good Morning, World starring Ronnie Scnell (Gomer Pyle, USA) featured Goldie Hawn in her first television series, set at a Los Angeles radio station. Created by Carl Reiner and featuring LA Dodgers broadcaster Vin Scully as the voiceover, the sitcom aired from 1967-1968.

Earlier this year, the network brought Johnny Carson back to late night with a 60-minute classic Carson episode airing weeknights and a 90-minute episode on weekends, marking the first time Carson is airing in strip since he signed off in 1992. This year, Antenna TV also added Webster, Wings and The Addams Family to its program lineup. In 2017, Becker, What’s Happening and My Two Dads, Alice, Growing Pains, 227, Hogan’s Family, Head of the Class and Murphy Brown will join the network during the year.

Antenna TV currently airs in 129 TV markets across the U.S. reaching 87% of TV households.

I can't get Antenna TV too well now, so I hope someone can record Season 1 while it's still being aired. Joey just lasted 18 months or so on TV Land, and I hope he lasts longer on Antenna TV.

I purchased the 2nd season DVD set from Amazon because I want to see the uncut episodes. Package should arrive in a few days. This DVD set is getting rare, I imagine it's been out of print for awhile now. Currently only a few sets can be found for sale on Amazon and Ebay, but the price is reasonable so I thought what the heck and I ordered a copy.

Well that was quick service, I received the DVD set today. :) I'll watch some episodes tonight. The studio that produced this DVD set, Questar, I know they left the opening credits off of the episodes, not good they did that but it's not too big of a deal, as long as the episodes themselves are uncut is the main thing.

Antenna TV started over with the 1st season today, airing episodes 1 and 2, and I noticed there was no credit crunch, the end credits were shown in full and intact. So I wonder if Antenna TV has decided to do away with the credit crunches, at least on some of their shows. Will have to see if the no credit crunch policy continues with the Joey Bishop Show.

That figures if Antenna TV is now going to air Joey Bishop Show with the end credits intact, after I went to all the trouble of recording seasons 1, 3 and 4 and transfer the shows to DVD. Antenna TV airings are edited, some scenes are deleted so it isn't worth recording these again just to have the end credits intact. I'll live with the credit crunch airings.

They had it on last night's shows in prime-time and they were bad. I watched AITF and Barney Miller and they were crunched.

I was surprised to see the two Joey Bishops today had the complete ending credits without the crunch. It was nice to hear the complete theme song for a change. Will see if this trend continues. But I'm not recording all these shows again just to have the full ending credits, it's not worth the trouble and it was enough work recording these the first time, I'm not starting the process all over again.

LOL, well I saw that Antenna TV was up to their usual tricks today, both Joey Bishops had the end credits with the split screen/credit crunch.

Murphy's Law in full operation.

I've noticed, on episodes where they play the end credits, but used to crunch them with "junk", they seem to be intact now. They played out a Hazel the other day. Maybe they read all these posts.

Could be that Antenna TV is gradually doing away with the credit crunches, although todays airings of Joey Bishop both had the credit crunches, while in yesterdays airings the end credits were shown intact, so it's flipping back and forth between the two. Will just have to continue watching and see what happens.

Antenna has two different "crunches":

1. They crunch the credits of the ending program over the opening of the next program. This is the more-common "crunch."

2. They crunch the credits of the ending program over one of their stupid promos (when there is an ad in the coming program which does not allow enough time for the first type). I think they've decided not to do this anymore. The simple reason might be that it costs a lot of $$ to do this. All this is a lot of guessing, of course...it could be something is just broken.

This is why I quit watching Antenna TV a long time ago and I don't plan on ever watching it again unless they stop these stupid crunches. Does 227 still have a crunch?

This is the one I really dislike, I hate this one.

Antenna does this type of crunch for the Joey Bishop Show. Not good either, but it's slightly more tolerable compared to the other one.

I don't like it either, but I didn't want to pass on the chance to record the Joey Bishop Show, especially since they're also airing all the episodes from the long unseen 1st season, so I thought what the heck I'll record them anyway even with the credit crunches. I have the retail DVD set of season 2, so I just needed to record seasons 1, 3 and 4.

There must be some restoration/color work going on with the season 3 episodes because I've noticed a change in some of these episodes compared to when Antenna ran them before. For example, in one of the episodes today, Abby Dalton wore a purple dress, but her dress was red when Antenna previously ran the episode. So red was obviously the original color of the dress, but whoever did the colorization work decided to make it purple. And Abby was given a bright red lipstick color, it looks terrible. :p

And the stage where Joey does his "TV show", the color of that was changed too, the background was originally a gold color but in the "restored" version the background is green.

I can understand that the color episodes of this series needed some work because the color did tend to look on the pale and flat side. But whoever did the work on these should at least stick with what the colors were originally and not change them around. Makes it look fake and artificial. :p

Joey hasn't been colorized, unfortunately, the color episodes you see were filmed in color. Now if they ever show the b/w season of episodes in color, then you can tell me they're colorized. Would be happy to hear that.:)

I don't think you understood my post, I know season 3 of Joey's show was filmed in color, but it looks like some work regarding the color must be going on with the episodes because I've noticed differences in the color with some season 3 episodes airing now compared to when Antenna ran them before. I don't know how else to explain it, but the difference is noticeable.

Season 4 of the show is all in black and white. Season 1 is black and white except for five episodes. When Antenna TV ran the 1st season, five episodes were in color. I believe this is how it was originally done, NBC filmed five 1st season episodes in color.

Sounds like someone's been "color tuning" or refining the old color versions then. I stopped watching when I got done recording the program, but if they're re-doing the color it might be interesting to see record them again. Are all the color episodes you've seen so far (now) re-color tuned or have just some old color episodes been re-furbished. I'd definitely record again if all color episodes have been re-done.

Two season 3 episodes that have a different look to the color are episode 4- Danny Thomas Gives Joey Advice, and episode 19- Joey The Comedian vs. Larry The Writer. There might be more but I'm not sure, I no longer watch every day since I also have all the episodes already recorded.

I had to re-record episode 4- the Danny Thomas episode because when I recorded it previously there were some technical issues with the telecast. So when I recorded it again a few weeks ago, I thought the color looked different and when I compared it to my prior recording of the episode, sure enough the difference was obvious.

So as you said, yes it looks like some season 3 episodes have been color tuned/re-furbished. Maybe they'll eventually re-do them all, I don't know, so far I've seen just those two that look different.

Well I think I'm done recording The Joey Bishop Show from Antenna TV, all episodes are in good shape now, I've re-recorded the shows that had some technical problems the first time I recorded them.

Maybe one day a decent DVD studio will release the series properly with uncut episodes. If not, I have Questar's season 2 DVD and my homemade DVD's of seasons 1, 3 and 4 from Antenna TV.

You mean as good as Antenna TV got, the whip cream and the orange juice is still green, I presume. Antenna hasn't restored them. Though if you figured out which of the few episodes Antenna did show an improved color version over the one the originally first showed, that information would be helpful. I recorded the whole series also when Antenna first started showing it. But I've read here that some episodes the color changed on later repeated showings and it was improved. If I knew which episodes have had their color fixed I'd record just those again off Antenna.

Here are some 3rd season episodes that have been color re-furbished:

Episode 4, with Danny Thomas as guest star.
Episode 14, with Vic Damone as guest star.
Episode 17, with Phil Foster and Leo Durocher as guest stars.
Episode 19, titled "Joey The Comedian vs. Larry The Writer."

With episode 19, Joey's wife Ellie is wearing a red dress. But when the episode was color re-furbished, some nut ball decided to change the color of her dress to purple. I have both versions recorded, I like the original one better where her dress is red.

And here are four more 3rd season episodes that have been color re-furbished:

Episode 1, titled "The Baby's First Day."
Episode 15, titled "Joey's Hideaway Cabin."
Episode 24, with Al Fisher and Lou Marks as guest stars.
Episode 30, with Milton Berle as guest star.

So altogether, eight episodes from the 3rd season have been color re-furbished. But as far as I'm concerned, the only one that needed re-furbishing is episode 14, with Vic Damone as guest star. When Antenna TV first ran this episode, the colors didn't look too good. The other seven look fine to me and I prefer the original prints over the re-furbished ones.
