In a new interview, Star Trek‘s Captain Kirk revealed that he has previously turned down (https://www.yahoo.com/movies/m/59a58314-c4f5-315c-9f79-d2eccb67d8d5/why-william-shatner-turned.html) an offer to guest star on The Big Bang Theory because he wasn’t pleased with how the show wanted to use him. Shatner then went on to clarify that he had been asked to play a heightened version of himself, but wasn’t comfortable with what that would entail.

Heightened ? Well, he's done it before.

But he was pleased with how 3rd Rock From The Sun used him???? odd.....

i think that transporter must've scrambled Shatner's brain tubes or something; surely a guest spot on TBBT couldn't have been any more embarrassing than 'Better Late Than Never' (which was a hoot, and overall hilarious, but lots of it obviously staged or greatly exaggerated)
