Sorry to make a new thread, but I thought this may be the easiest way...I can also put these into the UM Locations pictures thread as well. Anyways, just got back from a trip to Breckenridge and went and saw all the sites of the Oberholtzer/Schnee murders. The thing I did notice was that the drive from Breckenridge to Hoosier Pass was actually quite a drive, and quite curvy/mountainous...moreso than I had imagined. I found it hard to believe that Annette could have been subdued in a vehicle over this driving terrain while driving so far past her home in Blue River. As for the pictures below, you can see the cross, the area from the parking lot to the 50mph sign, the view of the road from the cross, Bobbie's home, and the pharmacy that Annette was last seen leaving. It was very surreal to see these and to be in the exact locations where these girls last were. Let me know if you have any questions on anything. Again, I apologize for the new post!

No problem! I met a few people in Breckenridge, one that lived in Alma, but she wasn't familiar with the case and didn't know Jeff (I asked because it was such a small town I figured the odds were that everyone knew everyone else.) I met a gentleman who was on the city council of Breck and asked him about the case...he was vaguely familiar and had some friends in the Sheriff's office who are still currently working on the case (would have loved to had contact with them and seen if they could give me a tour of all the sites :) Wishful thinking though...I think people thought I was more of a nut asking about such an old murder case..

This is further (but better) confirmation of how short a distance it was from the road to where Bobbie ended up. I guess it's not surprising when you know how deep the snow banks were at the time of the murder...

Those are great pictures and the area is so beautiful. Two questions...

Did you see the Village Pub where Bobby had drinks with her coworkers after work? Her office was in the same building. I have to imagine it couldn't have been too far from the Drug Store where Annette was last seen. Bobbie was last seen hitchhiking 100 yards from the pub standing in front of a mini mart. But after 34 years, it may not be a mini mart anymore.

Also, what does the text say on the red box on her cross? I imagine it's probably the known details of how she ended up there.

Given how desolate the area is now, one can only imagine how secluded it was at the time of the crimes...

Dynoguy...I wish I could have seen the Village Pub, but I remember researching a while back and that pub was actually in the "Bell Tower Mall," which unfortunately was demolished back in around the year 2000. I am not sure where the Bell Tower Mall was located or what stands in it's place now. I wasn't sure where the Minit Mart was...tried a lot of research to find that, but no existence of it anywhere on the internet...my best guess, when driving through town, was right before the end of town (where it looks like Bobbie was hitchhiking on the map) there is a Conoco station w/ an older convenience store attached...I am thinking this is possibly the location of the Minit Mart.

For the Red Box on the cross, it actually gives a link to the Rockymountaincoldcase.com and has several phone numbers on there for if anyone has any information on the murders.

A note about Hoosier Pass: It was actually extremely crowded area when we got there, with many cars leaving and pulling in constantly. There are hiking trails there that go higher up, etc... However, I was the only one (I believe) who was aware of what happened there 34.5 years ago. If only they all knew...

That's surprising. Given how small Breckenridge is (population 4,500) you'd think a crime this horrible would be remembered by many locals.

I suppose Annette's crime scene was probably too far away to check out? On UM, they said it was 30 miles south of Breckenridge, down a dead end road that connects to Sacramento Creek. Then again, it's never been proven that's where her murder happened and many believe that it was just a dump site for her body.

One last thing, and this doesn't have anything to do with the pics, but why do you think the dark haired woman last seen with Annette has never been tracked down? The cashier in the drug store observed them they were laughing and talking the entire time they were in there. At one point, the dark haired woman asked Annette, "these are you brand of cigarettes, right?" She had to have known her at least somewhat. Why did she never come forward? It's very odd.

I wanted to go to the location of where Annette's body was found, and I kept an eye out for the road, but after Alma, there are a ton of dirt roads that go in every different direction and there wasn't any clear indication of Sacramento creek..so before I knew it, we were in Fairplay and had passed it by. Obviously this was 35 years ago, but the councilman I spoke w/ told me that the average population right now is around 5,000 people or so, maybe less. However, on a busy weekend, he said they could get as many as 100,000 people in the town. With the crime occurring in January, the height of ski season, I would think there were quite a bit more people in town than on average. Almost makes you wonder if it could be a similar scenario to what the Sensing Murder psychic had said...maybe it was someone who grew up in the area or who doesn't/didn't live there anymore, but maybe their mom/parents lived there and they were visiting at the time, or they still visit.

I, too, found it odd that they could never track down the dark-haired woman, considering I'm sure many other people would know who she was, including her friends. I am also surprised they could not track down who it was in the photo in her wallet. Not that either of these identifiers could help the case.

I will say, for Frisco, it was much larger than I thought. I saw the Holiday Inn where Annette worked, but I'm sure it looks much different now than it did then. Also, Annette was a waitress at a bar in Breck called "the flipside." That doesn't exist any more, and I couldn't find an address, so I'm not sure where it was. There is currently a "FlipSide" bar in Breck, but this is one of the new chains that are in many different cities throughout the US.
