Regarding “The Emmys” [Sept. 19]:
"The omission of my father, Pat Harrington Jr., from this year’s “In Memoriam” piece at the Emmy Awards was a complete outrage. Since his passing on Jan. 6, the family had been looking forward to seeing his body of work, legacy and iconic character, Dwayne Schneider from the hit sitcom “One Day at a Time” (for which he actually won an Emmy), honored. It was truly appalling that they did not include him in the on-air segment. Typically, an Emmy is given for an outstanding acting performance in an actual television role. And when an actor/actress who won an award dies, they should be given the respect they deserve by being honored by the institution that bestowed that accolade."

Anna Karenina 10-02-2016, 08:32 PM That omission was really a terrible oversight.
Pat Harrington Jr. was a comedic genius who had been in the business for 63 years. In my opinion he was the best actor on ODAAT and the only actor to win an Emmy for it.
How they could have forgotten his contribution to the television industry is beyond me. :(
Honestly, I didn't notice it/think of it during the telecast, but now that you mention it, bad move, Emmy people.

Valerie Bertinelli mentioned that she was sad about the omission on her twitter page and got 467 likes.

Yes.
I like Val but on Twitter she is a die hard liberal Democrat and Republican basher and lets you know about that as much as she can. Even in her books. It can be annoying. Unless you are a liberal Democrat. :D
But I like how she stood up for Pat H. That was really cool of her. :)

God help this country...:(
And for what it's worth, I didn't intend for this topic to be turned into a discussion about Val's political views. That's what the politics board is for.
mets82 10-03-2016, 12:12 AM He should've been included. How come they always miss people in the "In Memoriam" segment?

You are right and I apologize. I deleted my last 2 comments before you made this post. This thread should only be about the snub of Mr. Harrington not anything to do with Miss Bertinelli and her political leanings or anyone else's for that matter.

The most-often used excuses are there isn't enough time and/or we can't include everyone. Personally, I think that except for the ones they obviously can't omit the names are put in a hat and drawn out to see who fills the remaining time. Of course this probably isn't so but considering some of those that are included Vs those who aren't each year I wouldn't be surprised.
I did some looking, and, sitcom-wise, James Noble, the governor on BENSON, was also omitted, although unlike Pat, I don't believe he won an Emmy for the role.

These award shows never make sense because a few years ago they omitted Dave Madden from the Partridge Family and Laugh In. Meanwhile they made sure to include some reality person. I remember the Oscars got flack because a few years ago they omitted an elderly actress who won an Oscar and yet included someone who was an executive or something like that.
