The list of awards shows for the entertainment industry grew a little bit longer Wednesday (April 24) with the announcement of the Classic TV Awards, which cable channel TV Land will inaugurate next year.

The awards will honor both vintage programs that have made their way into pop-culture history and current shows that have shown the ability to attract audiences over a number of years, TV Land announced Wednesday (April 24). The awards will take place in spring 2003 at a venue to be determined.

The Classic TV Awards will also include inductions into the TV Land Hall of Fame and the presentation of the "Future Classic" award, given to a current show the network believes is destined for all-time status. Past recipients of the award include "Scrubs," "Malcolm in the Middle," "The Sopranos" and "Sports Night."

"Celebrating all of our favorite shows and stars in an annual awards show is an idea that makes TV Land the best-suited network to embrace," says Larry W. Jones, executive vice president and general manager of TV Land. "[The awards are] about recognizing the important social and entertainment value that television brings to our lives and giving our viewers the opportunity to celebrate some of their favorite shows and television icons."
