As most of us know, All in the Family became Archie Bunker's Place. After a couple of seasons, Archie Bunker's Place was cancelled without a finale or a word of warning from CBS in 1983.
What was the last scene and words of Archie Bunker? What was the last episode about? I cannot seem to find it on Youtube.
Since I am two years older (and still a kid) Danielle Briesbois started to look real cute. Oh well. I remember a "Billie Bunker" the last season who was an older teen, early 20's person. Other than that, for such an iconic character, even 40 years later, no send off. Neither did George Jefferson.

Last episode was about the love life of Archie's Business partner Gary. Not a series finale because Carroll O' Connor had no idea the show would be cancelled since it finished at #22 after season 4

Billie Bunker was the name of Archie's niece who lived with Archie and Stephanie. She was played by Denise Miller, who was also in two short-lived sitcoms Fish and Makin' It.

I've fairly certain (but not 100%), that Archie Bunker's last scene was comforting Billie after she broke up with Rabinowitz the lawyer. (sp?)

How ignominious for a legendary society changing character like Archie Bunker to go out on such a run-of-the-mill sappy low note.

Why would gorgeous Billie like ultra geek Gary? Not a believable couple in my opinion.

Maybe because he was a lawyer. I don't know.

Agreed. At the very least, they should have allowed the producers to come back in the fall with a one hour farewell episode that tied everything up and said a proper goodbye to the character.
I think what happened was that some executive at CBS decided they didn't like the character anymore, that it had run its course and unceremoniously dumped it.
It was a suspicious move, because the show was still ranked #22 and lower rated CBS shows got renewed for the 1983-1984 season, including The Dukes Of Hazzard, whose ratings nosedived during the 1982-1983 due to the strikeout from actors Tom Wopat and John Schneider over merchandise royalty issues.
