"Atlanta" and "Better Things" Get Renewed for Second Seasons

Sept. 20, 2016

Just weeks after their debuts, FX renewed its two new comedy-dramas "Atlanta" and "Better Things".

The network gave 10 new episodes to each of the shows, which have brought the network critical acclaim and strong ratings.

"Atlanta" may be the new darling of both the network and the fall season, premiering earlier in September with 3 million total viewers in Live+3 ratings. That makes "Atlanta", Donald Glover's surrealist hip-hop story set in Georgia's black cultural mecca, second only to "Baskets" in terms of basic-cable primetime comedy series premieres since 2014.

It's been lauded by critics too, who've heaped on praise including "rarified" and thrillingly weird.

Nick Grad and Eric Schrier, presidents of FX's original programming, said in a statement, "It's really gratifying to launch two new comedies that have received overwhelming critical acclaim right out of the gate and that are emblematic of FX's award-winning brand. It is clear to us that Atlanta and Better Things have struck a nerve with viewers. They, along with their spectacular casts, writers and directors, have created exceptional shows that we are incredibly proud to produce."

"Atlanta" airs Tuesdays at 10/9 on FX.
