View Full Version : UM locations you've been to
Jetjack74 09-16-2016, 03:25 PM What Unsolved Mysteries filming locations(intentionally or coincidental) have you knowingly been to? It can be anywhere, tourist location or some out of the way spot. I fly for the airlines, and have overnighted in many, many areas that were filmed at. Places I've been to:
1. Myrtle Point OR: I go through that town where Jeremy Bright's disappearance took place when I drive US-1 from WA to CA.
2. The Missoula Airport: Airport entrance where the cops met up about the Father Rivera/Kerrigan Murders. A lot has changed since then. But I remember the entrance looking like that.
3. Seal Beach/Dana Point CA: Body an adolescent that turned up in a flood channel wetland that out to be teenager from Fullerton CA. Also Ive been to cliff location in Dana point where a Jane Doe fell after she was dropped off by a taxi. I used to live in the Seal Beach area and walked my dog in that marsh area.
Crescent City California: The town where the Liebling was ported before she disappeared at sea. Used to drive through there from time to time.
4. Pleasant Hill CA: The BART station where Dotty Caylor was allegedly dropped off by husband Jule.
Walnut Creek, CA: The parking lot where Lester Garnier was killed. I think I've parked there. It's at an office building in the downtown area. I thin it's gone now and built up now.
5. Ocean Beach CA: The beach area where Kurt McFall was found. It's a popular place, so probably a lot of people have been there. But I know Ive been to the Golf Course that overlooks the beach.
6. Tracy, CA: The turnout where the Redwood City Arsonist's video tape and jacket were found. I can be sure, but I think I had passed by it.
7. Bozeman, MT: The shot where Patricia Meehan's actor is walking by the on/off ramp area to I-90E/W in that segment
8. Long Beach, CA: The Queen Mary. I used to live in Long Beach and went aboard the Queen Mary many times.
9. Lewis County, WA: I live here in the Seattle area and frequently drive on State Route 7-WA in Spanaway highlighted in the Mike Reimer/Tube Sock Killer case. I know where the K-Mart is where their daughter was found and routinely drive on Route 7 when I go to Mt Rainier and Mt St Helens. I don't know where the logging road is where his truck was found but I do drive by/through Mineral when I drive through there.
10. Moss Beach, CA: The moss Beach Distillery. Had dinner there and they allowed my dog to sit with us on the deck. He got a nice good quality dog biscuit. Great place.
tsaun 09-16-2016, 05:19 PM -I70 killer in Raytown, Missouri
-Darlie Routier house in Dallas
-Jonbenet Ramsey house in Boulder
MissFit29 09-16-2016, 09:05 PM I've been to the Bad Route Rest Stop.
I used to drive by the parking ramp where Jon Grundhofer was "kidnapped" when I would drop my husband off at work.
I've been in the general vicinity of a few locations for sure, but I can't think of other specific ones right now.
MegtheEgg86 09-16-2016, 09:44 PM - All the locations in Knoxville, TN concerning the Blair Adams case.
- The Rhonda Hinson site in Valdese, NC.
- The Hawaii National Bank in Honolulu where Todd Mueller was arrested.
I've also been to Harvard St in Newburgh Heights, OH (Kurt Sova), the backroads of Signal Mountain, TN (ATV murders), I-40 by the Russellville, AR exit (Jay Durham), U.S. Army Garrison Yongsan in South Korea (Mike Carmichael and Billy Ray Hargrove), over the Lake Panasoffkee bridge on I-75 in Florida, and several other little "been in the area" type situations in which I was simply passing through a city or town connected with a UM case.
Killarney Rose 09-16-2016, 10:11 PM I was on vacation in Panama City Beach when Pamela June Ray was taken.
I'm from Winter Garden, FL, where the Tommy Zeiglar case took place.
Been to the Strawberry Plains exit where Blair Adams was killed.
Been over Signal Mountain.
The Human Mop 09-16-2016, 10:38 PM I've driven over Lake Panasoffkee.
Steve W. 09-16-2016, 10:49 PM I haven't been to many of them, other than Hamilton/Hamilton Lake (Todd Kelly), Indiana (about an hour or so away from where I live) and I've been through East Chicago twice (Jay Given) and Chicago (any UM cases there other than where Chad Maurer was found?) about 20 times. I've been in Cleveland a few times but the only time as an adult I was going to a RHCP concert on Halloween so I didn't think about (or know at the time) exactly where Newburgh Heights (Kurt Sova) was from Quicken Loans Arena.
xxxxmattxxxx69 09-17-2016, 09:17 PM Been to Logan Airport in Boston where Su Taraskewitz(sp?) worked before she was murdered
Kinda boring
WishfulDreamer 09-17-2016, 09:28 PM 1) The Queen Mary
2) Redondo Beach Pier (Seal Lion Killings-thankfully, they are still thriving and can be heard at night)
3) The shopping center where Martin Ganz was gunned down (Cogni-Tech segment)
4) The Angeles National Forest (Linda Sobek/Kimberly Pandelios)
5) Beverly Hills (Adam Hecht)
6) Granite, OK (Randolph Dial) People I spoke to knew the Parkers
7) Been right by Cal-Poly Tech in SLO, CA several times (Kristin Smart)
dynoguy88 09-18-2016, 01:01 AM - The schoolhouse from the Dennis DePue segment, just outside of Coldwater, Michigan.
- The real estate office where Jack Brown was murdered in Ypsilanti, Michigan. Well, I never went inside but I drove past it dozens of times. It's a temp agency now.
McBevis 09-19-2016, 08:36 PM I grew up within a few miles of Cherry Hill, New Jersey (where Dede Rosenthal lived), and have many connections to the area. I have relatives there, have worked there, and have done just about everything there is to do there. I've also been to Lakehurst, NJ pretty often (this is where the woman mistakenly thought to be Dede Rosenthal was spotted in a bar).
I've also been in Monroeville, Pennsylvania (the place where David Hurley went for donuts on the night he was murdered), and I've driven over the Delaware Memorial Bridge (where Robert Corrado faked suicide) many times.
Sick Nick 09-19-2016, 10:27 PM I posted these in another thread a while back but here are a couple pics I took in Austin from the Colleen Reed case:

Also my wife and I just bought a house right down the road from where the Lauren Jackson case happened.
cdr369 09-19-2016, 10:43 PM Sick Nick, do you know if the car wash is still there? I live a few miles south of there, but I rarely go downtown anymore.
compulsive dvd 09-21-2016, 03:42 PM I've been to Medjugorje, but did not witness any miracles. It was also over 100 degrees when we climbed up to the spot, so I suppose it's a miracle we didn't dehydrate considering how light headed we felt.
I've also been outside the Kingfisher, OK jail where numerous people have escaped.
They shot some things in the Peoria, IL area where I'm originally from for one of the gypsy segments. It's always crazy to see bridges you've driven over numerous times on TV.
I need to check out various L.A. area locations, still.
DALLASTEXAN!! 09-22-2016, 05:41 PM I was just at the SeaTac airport been there a few times but have been watching a lot of DB Cooper lately. Ironically we had two women that had a verbal altercation on our flight and we almost had to turn around.

That's actually my favorite airport, if you can have a fave airport.
DALLASTEXAN!! 09-22-2016, 11:18 PM That's actually my favorite airport, if you can have a fave airport.
Yes you can. I love Seattle. Great beverages and food even at the airport. You can be out of the airport on a train to downtown/entertainment within mins. Unlike Dallas(although the airport is nice) you have to drive everywhere and nothing worth doing is close by.
Sick Nick 09-24-2016, 09:13 AM Sick Nick, do you know if the car wash is still there? I live a few miles south of there, but I rarely go downtown anymore.
It's still there but it has new owners and the name of it has changed.
ThisLittlePiggy 09-24-2016, 05:15 PM Taos, NM (Taos Hum)
San Francisco Bay area (Zodiac Killer)
Los Angeles, CA (Black Dahlia)
Wickenburg, AZ (Wickenburg massacre)
Long Beach, CA (Murder, Robbery)

Yes. I saw it on Google Maps street view. One major difference from the UM segment is that there appears to be a building on the corner, next to the car wash that wasn't there in 1991. When the three men heard Colleen's screams while standing on the front porch, they could see the side of the car wash. The view of the car wash is now obstructed.

ThisLittlePiggy 09-26-2016, 07:23 PM nope
TheCars1986 09-26-2016, 07:58 PM Tommy Zeigler's furniture store, Friendship Tower in South Dakota, and Bullock's Hotel in South Dakota. Also went to both Hico, Texas (town that Brushy Bill Roberts resided in when he died) and various places around New Mexico tracing Billy the Kid's haunts.
kirbivore 09-28-2016, 03:33 AM I've been to that Howard Johnson's in Maine where the woman disappeared and later was discovered to have hitch hiked to Alabama and committed suicide.
hostedbyrobertstack 09-30-2016, 09:30 PM I am actually currently in Breckinridge on a Colorado vacation. Planning to see the sights of the oberhiltzer Schnee murders. So far I have seen the drug store where Annette was last seen leaving with the unidentified woman. Will get some good pics of all the sites. On a side note we first stopped in Boulder and coincidentally my hotel was a five minute walk to jonbenet Ramsey's house so I was able to walk by and snap a pic. Crazy since it has gotten so much publicity lately as well.

Can't wait to see your photos!
The Human Mop 10-04-2016, 11:15 PM You know, this isn't a place, but is UM related. My husband and I have been together a lot of years. He has some pretty close relatives on his father's side. I just found out this past summer that their mother (not related to hubby) was adopted through the Tennessee Children's Home Society. She wasn't kidnapped and she wasn't a baby, I don't think, I got the impression her parents just dropped her off one day. :crying:
sharky888 10-23-2016, 03:53 PM I used to live in Seattle and at one point took a trip up to Vancouver, BC. I remember seeing signs for Richmond and immediately started thinking about the Cindy James case. I jokingly thought to myself that I should drop in on Neal Hall or Ozzie Kaban. About 5-6 years ago I was so swept up in the bizarre nature of this case that my ex bought me a copy of the book Who Killed Cindy James? I didn't actually go through Richmond on that trip, though. Up until recently I thought I was the only person who thought about that sort of thing relating to UM. Good to know there are others out there...
DALLASTEXAN!! 12-28-2016, 11:15 AM would like to visit RAF bentwaters at night. recently came across a street named bentwaters..
LS1Heli 12-28-2016, 10:09 PM I go to FL a lot so last Jan. we went to Clermont. House was just like on the show...hadn't changed a bit. When you see a place that you remember seeing as a kid and then see it in person it really is something. I could close my eyes and see the scene with Harding getting shot.
I go to CA a lot and attempted several times to hit the Barracks (apparently open to the public). First time my idiot brain drove to LBC and then got there not realizing they were closed on Mondays (doh). Tried going a 2nd time but with plane schedules and other items just never made it.
Janel "Jaycee" Miller 01-17-2017, 09:29 PM My mother & stepfather recently relocated to Central Delaware. They live about three miles from the cemetery where Dorothy Donovan is buried, and approx 10 miles from the restaurant where her son picked up the hitchhiker/killer. I have been driven past both places.
Hot Jock 01-18-2017, 01:43 AM I travel to NYC once or twice per year since it's my favorite place in the world. Anyway, on my most recent visit last October, I finally found Sneha Philip's name on the 9/11 Memorial. I snapped these really quick while I was there.
LooksLikeCRicci 01-19-2017, 01:53 PM Do they have a directory where you can locate the individual victim's name, or do you literally have to wander around the Memorial Site to find them?

The 9/11 Memorial's website makes it very easy to find whomever you're looking for:
https://www.911memorial.org/names-memorial
I highly recommend walking around both footprints and really taking in the atmosphere while you're there. I travel to the city quite often but always make time for the memorial.
Sneha is on panel S-66, which happens to be a very controversial panel for a variety of reasons.
Janel "Jaycee" Miller 01-20-2017, 08:28 PM very[/I] controversial panel for a variety of reasons.
The journalist in me is very curious to know the variety of ressons. I know about Sneha, but are there other things you can share?

I'd rather not discuss these types of things on this forum as they have absolutely nothing to do with UM.
kane7474 01-28-2017, 10:40 AM Just right off the top of my head, the land my grade school was built on was in the very spot that Sharon Kinne killed her female victim and dumped the body. I have been to the spot where Angela Hammond was taken many times. I have been to the caves where don Dixon dumped body. Also been to the rest area where Dwayne mcorkandale was killed
bluejazz87 01-28-2017, 11:16 AM - Applied Materials parking lot in Santa Clara, California. This was the case where Matt Flores was gunned down in the parking lot of his new job, and it's assumed that he was the victim of a wrong hit. I think I've been there at least once since my aunt used to work there and was employed at the time of the murder.
- Was in Austin, Texas a while back and was close to where Coleen Reed was captured. Austin isn't a big place.
- Used to live in Redwood City, CA which is also a small city/town. Probably drove by that house that was burned down.
Jetjack74 01-30-2017, 06:46 PM I was just at the SeaTac airport been there a few times but have been watching a lot of DB Cooper lately. Ironically we had two women that had a verbal altercation on our flight and we almost had to turn around.
Also, the Jack Lutter scenes were filmed also at Sea-Tac Airport
asmitty 01-31-2017, 12:15 PM In the 90s, I went to some of the notable locations in Nashville, IN from the Clarence Roberts case. I used to live near there.
I've been to the site of Arnold Archambeau and Ruby Brugier's car accident in Lake Andes, SD. It's only about two hours away from where I currently live.
I've been to the spot where Angela Hammond was abducted. My grandparents live in southern Missouri and the drive to their house takes me directly through Clinton.
cdr369 01-31-2017, 06:13 PM I live in Austin, Texas. Last weekend I attended the March at the capitol. We parked off of West Lynn and 5th Street, to walk downtown. We passed by the car wash where Colleen Reed was abducted.

Someone put a picture of that up on the UM Locations thread. It's kinda eerie how it looked the same, all those years later...
freakbook 02-01-2017, 02:06 PM It just donned on me that I live up the street from Dupont where Sandra Levy, and Joyce Chiang lived, when I passed that Starbucks Joyce left from this morning.
I'm also sure I've seen the restaurant Bashir worked in.
DALLASTEXAN!! 02-01-2017, 02:21 PM I live in Austin, Texas. Last weekend I attended the March at the capitol. We parked off of West Lynn and 5th Street, to walk downtown. We passed by the car wash where Colleen Reed was abducted.
DYI car wash is almost as scary as a rest stop.
Charlie99909 02-01-2017, 03:57 PM I drive by Charlie Scheel's corner every day to go to work. I've been to the Sacramento Thrill Killer's locations and had pizza in the place while doing research. I slept in a house on La Riviera Dr, a hot bed for EAR attacks.
Though, it isn't a UM case, I had dinner across the street from Dorthea Purnte's house last night.
Drown Soda 02-04-2017, 01:46 AM 1. Omar's Steakhouse in Vancouver, Washington, where Carolyn Killaby was last seen in. Never been inside; it's not a restaurant anymore anyway and hasn't been for awhile, but I know where the building is. My mom lived in Vancouver for several years.
2. The area along the Columbia River where the D.B. Cooper money was found on the beach near Vancouver, Washington. It appears they filmed the scene in the segment at Wintler Park, but I could be wrong.
3. Salem, Oregon where Sherry Eyerly was kidnapped, and where Michael Francke was killed outside the state capitol. For those who don't remember the case, Eyerly was the girl who was delivering pizzas to what police later found out was a fake address, and her car was found abandoned, still running, with pizzas lying on the ground in a remote area. I don't believe she's ever been found.
4. Pelham Bay in the Bronx, where the Son of Sam killed one of his first victims. I currently live a stone's throw from Pelham Bay.
5. Coos County, Oregon, where Jeremy Bright disappeared. This case always freaked me out as a kid because it was one of the few I saw on UM that took place in my state.
6. Phoenix, Arizona; where the "Phoenix Mystery Lights" were sighted.
7. The Connecticut River Valley, where there was the "Connecticut River Valley serial killer" in the '80s. Driven through the country out there, visited Hartford, CT, Springfield, MA, etc. Also been to southern Vermont where the Long Trail disappearances occurred—Bennington area. Spent some time in nearby Brattleboro as well.
8. Bed-Stuy, Brooklyn, where Su-Ya Kim was found dead. Not sure where this actually was, but it was in the neighborhood.
9. Beaverton, Oregon, where Ward Weaver killed Ashley Pond and Miranda Gaddis and hid their bodies on his property. One of my good friends' family lives about 15 minutes from where it happened. They tore his house down and now it's just an empty lot. Very eerie.
10. Gresham, Oregon gas station where Tyrome Theis killed three of the female employees and vanished. This happened when I was a baby, and we lived 10 minutes from there. I remember my mom telling me it was very frightening for everyone in the area at the time. The gas station is still there but it's only a fill-up station for semi-trucks. To this day the old light-up marquee that say "Gas Save" is there but it's never been lit up since I can remember. I've driven by it probably a million times throughout my life since I grew up east of there.
11. Deer Lodge, Montana, where the Zodiac killer had purportedly lived somewhere in an isolated cabin. Not much of a town, but I've been there many times while traveling through Montana.
