View Full Version : When Did you first watch TV Land Back then when it didn't suck? AceWesternson 09-15-2016, 07:13 AM For me i started to watch it in 1998 when it came to cable services the first program i watched on it was Bossom Buddies Anna Karenina 09-15-2016, 09:55 AM Brady, An American Chronicle was their peak for me. Satire at its best. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e79jlefA45k The network was much better in the 90's. Now we have all of these retro, over the air channels that pick up where they left off in terms of airing classic TV so TV Land did leave its influence with their funny promos and such. But shows like Younger come off as crass and trying too hard to be edgy. tlc38tlc38 09-15-2016, 10:12 AM Started watching in 1996. Stopped watching about 5 or so years ago. Hooterville Saturdays were my favorite. This was a fun schedule: http://www.classictvhits.com/schedules/tvland/96/aug.htm 70s show watcher 09-15-2016, 07:25 PM i first watched tv land in 1997 BigManMike 09-15-2016, 07:55 PM December 2000. danderson400 09-15-2016, 09:44 PM I remember watching St. Elsewhere when TVLand first started. it was part of their Dramarama block on weekdays. mets82 09-15-2016, 11:14 PM My grandparents had TVLand before I did. I got it in 2002. Was it declining then? Dale Key 09-15-2016, 11:17 PM I don't know what year it was, but I wanted it when it first came out. I asked my mom to call the cable company and say "Take me to TV Land" and the csr said they didn't have room for it. If you count those sneak previews they did on Nick at Nite you could say I watched it right at the beginning, technically. treky 09-16-2016, 12:23 AM if you count the sneak previews of it that they'd also show on NICK AT NITE every once in a while, then it was in 1996 when they started. But I didn't start watching it on a regular basis until 200 when we moved and got a new cable provider that had it. icecream 09-16-2016, 12:07 PM I didn't have cable until 2005, so I could only see it on vacations before then. gidgetgrape 09-16-2016, 02:37 PM I didn't get it until 2001, when they started showing "I Love Lucy." I was a new Lucy fan at the time so I was excited about that. I stopped watching regularly around 2004. I loved the "Kitschen" programming with Square Pegs and SOAP. Kasey 09-16-2016, 07:54 PM I had it from Day One when they were showing UNCUT episodes of most everything. I recorded all of PETTICOAT JUNCTION, GREEN ACRES and THAT GIRL and a lot of the rare shows they ran on weekends like ANGIE, BLANSKY'S BEAUTIES and AMANDA'S. Stopped watching regularly in 2000 when I saw how badly they were butchering CHARLIE'S ANGELS and MARY TYLER MOORE. I mean, you just don't edit out a poolside catfight between Jaclyn Smith and Rosemary Forsyth or the entire Veal Prince Orloff scene from Mary's Dinner Party and still get to champion yourself as a trumpeter of Our Television Heritage. I did watch it again in 2002 though because they were showing DONNA REED, HAZEL, THE FLYING NUN and MARY HARTMAN and I hadn't seen those in years. After then, I quit until I got rid of cable and satellite in 2006 and just watched DVDs exclusively, which I still do. Tubehead 09-19-2016, 11:28 PM i started watching when me my brother mom & dad got cable!! we just had 3 4 & 12 for several years it was right after i had back surgery when my mom & dad got cable! only reason we didn't get it it was kind of high back then plus we lived really out in the boonies so it was hard to get cable!! !! they used to do free hbo & stars free per view movies for whole month i remmeber taping movies on vsh tape when they showed the free movies on hbo & stars !! then i remember when my aunt galay taped disney channel she would tape disney cartoon movies & disney cartoons!! we still got some of the cartoons on tape!! i was still in middle school i was 12 years old!! other then that i mostly watched cartoons when i was growing up! i used to watch it when my grand mama had cable television!! i guess i never gotten into the classic shows unitl right when i got right into middle into high school!! i did watch batman with adam west I love lucy the wonder years & happy days in reruns when i was still in middle shcool!! broadmoor 09-19-2016, 11:47 PM I bought a dish in 1996, primarily to get TV-Land. By about five years, I had stopped watching the network completely, as it had pretty much ditched all the shows I was interested in. Haven't bothered with it ever since. In fact, I really haven't bothered with any channel since then, either. Dived into dvd's, which turned into my only option to watch material I actually enjoyed. Regulus 09-20-2016, 09:14 AM Dived into dvd's, which turned into my only option to watch material I actually enjoyed. jehobden 09-27-2016, 03:10 PM I first saw TV Land on a trip to Hot Springs, AR, in 1997 and loved it. I didn't see it regularly until 2000, when I finally got cable tv at my house. I loved it at first but started hating it as it ran its reruns "off the clock" (Nick-at-Nite did this too.) and brought on its trashy original sitcoms, which seem to be more offensive than just about anything on the networks now. I didn't even watch (or record) the latest TV-Land Awards show last spring, as it no longer seemed to honor classic tv but was instead promoting modern tv and its values. tooltime1987 10-01-2016, 06:32 PM I first watched TV Land when it came to Charter Communications in the Northampton, MA area in May 1997. ABC1 10-02-2016, 06:22 PM I can't remember the year that I started to watch TV Land, but I do remember the retromercials. Also loved when Adam-12, Get Smart and The Love Boat was on it. I do know that I haven't watched TV Land very much in years. :( mets82 10-03-2016, 12:27 AM I don't speak for everyone on here but for me, it was what TVLand was about. The marathons, the retromericals, the promos etc. THAT'S why we take about TVLand, imo. To remember how GREAT it was. Tubehead 10-03-2016, 01:39 AM i really didn't get tv land unitl right after i got out of high school!! but i remember we had nick at night!!i remmeber the block party summer marathon all week long!! one night they would have i love lucy then the other night they would show happy days or sanford & son!! I also remember when they use to have all that Twip stuff mets82 10-06-2016, 06:57 PM Twip? AceWesternson 10-07-2016, 12:17 AM Twip spoofed retro tv commercials of the 50s and 60s https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dijjjVFiJO0 This is one of them. loaferman 10-07-2016, 09:32 AM I only got to see it when on vacation. Don't recall the year but they were showing those "Twip" spots and retromercials a lot. Shows were Adam 12, Emergency, Jeannie, Bewitched, and a bunch more. Not as many marathons back then and less commercials. I used to hardly sleep on vacation because of that channel. When we finally got it on our cable it was already heading downhill. I remember ever other minute was an ad for "Class Reunion". All the joy I got from learning we would get the channel left fast. Jamey Greek 07-21-2017, 05:39 PM I received it in 1996 on my grandmother's Prime star. However, I received it regularly in 1997 and I watched it when I could. I enjoyed Bosom Buddies and The wonders of TV Land stevea 07-21-2017, 05:46 PM Probably around 2000. I remember Twice as Nice Mornings...they had My Three Sons, and Petticoat Junction, among others. Now their daytime is a ton of Andy Griffith and a ton of westerns. What a bore. MA 07-21-2017, 08:27 PM Brady, An American Chronicle was their peak for me. BigManMike 07-21-2017, 10:41 PM Never had cable but first watched it when my grandmother got it when I was there at Christmas in 2000. SunnyDay 07-22-2017, 12:47 AM Unfortunately , I caught the tail end of the good TvLand era howierules86 07-28-2017, 08:25 PM I first remember watching it in the summer of 1997 and being fond of "Mister Ed" and "Petticoat Junction" at that time. These days, I only watch TV Land on Sundays when they're doing a "Golden Girls" marathon. KurtfromPitts 08-02-2017, 11:05 AM The day before New Year's Eve 1998, when what I believe was then TCI added it to its cable lineup. Plater of Everything 08-02-2017, 04:29 PM I first remember watching it in about 2004, when I was just 2 years old. My mom used to watch it all the time and I remember thinking that Andy Griffith was a mix between Greg from The Wiggles and The Hulk. I also remember absolutely hating The Brady Bunch, even though I was only two! |
