I keep getting mail for two people who used to live here, who moved out at the beginning of last month I don't think they put in a change of address. I have no way to contact them as I didn't know them. There is not a regular mail carrier for the route in my area. So it's never the same person delivering the mail.

I have written on each piece of mail: "Doesn't live here. Return to sender." Some of the mail looks important whereas other mail it's hard to know just be the envelope. I have had one piece of mail come back to me after I wrote 'Doesn't live here. Return to sender." It's not easy for me to get to the post office as I can't drive. I went Saturday. Today there were three pieces of mail for the former tenants.

What else can I do?

I'd just clothes pin it to the mail box and put on the envelope "moved". That's what I've done in the past. It shouldn't be your responsibility to return it to the post office.

I'd be tempted to mark it deceased, that should put a stop to it.

Hand the mail back to the mailman, and in your best Elvis impersonation, start singing " Return to sender, address unknown, no such person, no such zone"!!!!!! :D

Thanks Nordy.

Thanks Charles.
One of the things that came today was from the IRS. I don't imagine they would like that. ;) I don't want to answer to them. I've tried telling the post office that (insert first and last names) don't live here anymore.

I would have to be able to catch him first, lol. Since it's someone different everyday and I usually don't know the mail has been delivered right away, I can't try that. Then again, I can't sing, so that's probably a good thing.

I asked our mailperson, he said the best thing to do is write "return to sender" or "moved" and put it back out for the mailperson.

For the past couple of years we have been getting mail for someone that has never lived here (since we have been here for 29 years). It hasn't been a lot of mail, I just been writing "never lived here." Whoever it is has used our address, talk about mail fraud.

Also, if in the bar code the word "Auto" appears, it's usally bulk mailing or "junk mail" that won't be forward.

Sorry to hear you have been getting mail for someone who never lived there.

Thanks. I'll look to see if any of it says auto. I'm still getting their mail. Two more things for them from the IRS came today. It says IRS on the front of the envelope. I will include "moved" along with doesn't live here and return to sender. Maybe that will help.

I got one piece of mail that was delivered to me that was for a different address. That clearly was an error.

The same thing happens to me too, it's annoying. I just write return to sender not at this address and mail it out.

I do too. All the time. I just mark it moved and put it back in the going out slot.
