Even though The Walking Dead and Game of Thrones are massively popular, globally beloved TV shows, none of their leading actors have quite broken into the ranks of full-fledged movie star in the way George Clooney, say, suddenly became too big for E.R. in the late 90s. Hollywood insiders have been scratching their heads over this phenomenon for awhile now. Is it because the hierarchy between TV and film has become so blurry? Is it because the era of the “movie star” is over? Or is it just because those poor zombie survivors and Westerosi strivers often have to walk around looking unglamorous and downright grubby?
