Wow, it looks like the authorities have zeroed in on a possible location near Cal Poly where Kristin Smart's remains might be buried and an excavation is underway:

It might be days before we know anything. But it would be unbelievable if the remains of Jacob Wetterling and Kristin Smart are both found within the same week!
And it's possible that a certain suspect might be sweating profusely right now...

As he should. Hopefully he's going to finally get the punishment he's deserved all these years.

Wow! That would be good news if they can find her and arrest the person who is responsible (who we all know who that probably is).

The remains of Kristin Smart, the Cal Poly freshman who disappeared over Memorial Day weekend in 1996, may be buried on the hillside near the university’s “P” landmark, the San Luis Obispo County Sheriff’s Office announced Tuesday.
Every time I've driven past that "P" on the hill, I think of Kristin. I'm hoping this search will finally yield answers.

I've read a few comments from people who are familiar with Cal Poly and they're a bit skeptical that Kristin's body could have been buried by the "P" without anyone seeing anything or that a fresh grave would have been missed during the initial searches of that area. But I'll remain optimistic and at the very least, this is getting Kristin's case back in the spotlight again.

Man, what IS it with me disliking certain suspects named Paul?
I really want them to find her. Her family deserves closure and a certain somebody deserves to be brought to justice.
P.S. Robin-- podcast material?? ;)

Done ;) . It's been a busy day.
But yeah, it blows my mind when I realize that Paul Flores has officially gotten to live as a free man for 20 YEARS now  .

Here (http://www.nbcnews.com/news/us-news/items-interest-found-search-kristin-smart-student-missing-1996-n645231) is an update on the excavation. Hopefully this does turn into something legit.
You have to figure Paul... err... the killer most likely wouldn't have taken the body that far. I would really, really liked to see this case closed. Much like the Wetterlings, the Smart family deserves to have some closure after all these years. I really hope they are able to get closure and justice for Kristin.

It looks like some "items of interest" have been discovered during this excavation:

Some other sources have said remains were found, but they're not sure yet if they're human or animal. However, the articles which have stated this are from unreliable "sources" like the Daily Mail, so I'd take that with a grain of salt. But at least it appears they've found something.
