The Monkees’ fifth album, The Birds, The Bees & The Monkees (http://members.tripod.com/~colli/birds/birds.html) (Colgems #COM/COS-109), was released. It was the first album to miss the #1 spot on the charts, and it was the last album to chart in The Top 10. Its mono version featured completely different mixes unavailable anywhere else (except the 1994 Listen To The Band Rhino box-set, which attempted to reproduce the songs as they sounded, though in stereo). Worse, very few copies of the mono LP were printed, as mono was being phased out in favor of stereo, at the time considered the wave of the future, making this Monkees U.S. mono LP release a valued collector's item! (Any of you got this in your collection? If so, you own a treasure! )

The release of The Birds, The Bees & The Monkees (http://members.tripod.com/~colli/birds/birds.html) coincided with the retelecast of
“Art For Monkee's Sake” (http://members.tripod.com/~ahiii/season2/art4.html), Episode No. 37 of The Monkees TV series (first aired on 10-9-67), which occurred @ 7:30 p.m. (EDT) on NBC.

My copy's probably stereo, but I don't remember, seeing as I haven't looked at it for awhile.

You know, the birds, the bees, and the monkees has a really great album cover.
