I enjoy watching Newhart since the reruns are on Antenna TV but I do not like Michael and Stephanie. To me, they are the worst sitcom couple because they are shallow, self-centered materialistic crybabies, especially Stephanie when she doesn't get her way. They are also very rude and insensitive to other people, especially in the town meeting scene in Apples, Apples, Apples.
Your thoughts on Michael and Stephanie.

Michael and Stephanie worked best when the entire episode didn't revolve around them. Their shallowness and social ignorance were great for a laugh here or there, but it generally got old fast.
They are the kind of people who it would be a nightmare to deal with in real life every day, but as sitcom characters those same traits can make them reliably funny (again, in moderation).

Its not so much Stephanie I have a problem with because she was born with that obvious silver spoon in her mouth so it would explain her wardrobe, shallowness, and lack of work ethic. Its Michael with his crying, annoying chuckle, and his total butt kissing of Stephanie that drives me up the wall. Every time he talks I'd like George to hammer him up somewhere.
