Every Thanksgiving it's always been a family tradition to watch the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade and every year that it is shown on TV every Thanksgiving I have noticed that it has changed it's image? Is it because the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade hopes to attract a more family friendly audience to it or is it because the parade has adopted a whole new look every year? Take for instance I cannot figure out why every Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade has a big obsession with Broadway musicals and I don't know why they do it? Is it to promote new Broadway musicals or is it considered a way to entertain the people while waiting for the actual parade to start? A second thing i've noticed about the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade is that every time they have singers perform on the parade the singers never get the chance to perform a whole song and sing a short version of their song then when the next float arrives the singer stops singing and I seem to think that the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade puts each float on a time limit to let singers perform. Another thing I have noticed about the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade is that there seems to be more floats based on cartoons and movies and very few balloons being featured and when they have new balloons they seem to be balloons of advertising mascots and very few cartoon character balloons in the parade. I remember when Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade used to feature a lot of various character balloons from movies and cartoons but now it seems that advertising mascots are the star balloons. Last thing I've noticed about the parade is that every time that Santa Claus makes his entrance at the end of the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade it seems that Santa Claus never gets to talk or say "Happy Holidays" and when he appears all he does is wave to the people and they should improve this ending to make the parade end smoothly
Has anyone noticed this new image of the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade?

I don't know. I can't watch most of the parade because it just doesn't interest me. Broadway doesn't interest me and a lot of tv shows of today I don't watch.

Here's another thing i've noticed about the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade that I think is causing the parade to go downhill. On every single Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade every time they have celebrities they spend a whole hour doing interviews with celebrities about topics such as family life and Thanksgiving plans and I have always considered these interviews a waste of space on the parade. Another thing I have noticed about the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade is that any time they have the Radio City Rockettes they only show about five minutes of the Rockettes and then the parade cuts to a commercial break and I remember when the parade would show a whole performance of the Rockettes and that made the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade extra special

I do hope that Macy's improves the Thanksgiving Day Parade this year by making it long and not have so many commercial breaks and show more of the balloons and floats complete with commentary on every single float and balloon that they have. Because the thing I dislike about Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parades is that they show five minutes of each float or balloon and then have a commercial break

I don't bother to watch the parade anymore because all of the performances are not live and instead are lip-synched.

I think TV time restrictions have a lot to do with it.

Let me ask you guys something. I clicked on the link that TMC posted but now I have a problem. I read about half of the article and it starts to mention Matt Lauer and NBC's coverage. Do you think it's ok to bookmark the article considering what Matt Lauer did? I know it sounds stupid but I don't condone what he did obviously.

Now, there is another article on the same sight that reviews NBC's coverage of The Parade. Do you think I should bookmark the article considering what Matt Lauer did? Again, I know it sounds stupid but I don't condone what Matt Lauer did.

Matt Lauer and Savannah Guthrie welcome us and promise there will be plenty more ‘dancing in the streets’ before it’s over. Huh? I thought this was a parade. What about marching?

Oh geez, back to Lauer and Guthrie to introduce….yep you guessed it another performance. This time the cast from the popular Broadway hit Anastasia. I’ve gotten so bored with this now I start to look at the lousy lip syncing being done with these performances or people in the crowd looking uninterested. I guess they must be associated with Macy’s or NBC to get these seats right in front of the store.

Scraps’ arrival provides me with the funniest moment of the parade as Savannah provides us with this bit of tantalizing trivia “Scraps’ tail is about as four times as long as a whooley mammoth was tall.” This remark is followed by about a minute of awkward silence. I imagine the hosts and crew are looking at each other thinking, “Who the F wrote that bit of copy?” Lauer comes in to save things by informing us to tune into NBC tomorrow to watch a hockey game.

Back from commercial and kids are singing and Al is back now sitting with Matt and Savannah. There’s a Kentucky Fried Chicken float reminding everyone that turkey is for today, but our greasy unhealthy chicken is year round! Amazingly country singer Dustin Lynch performs while Colonel Sanders waves to the excited crowd.

Terrible. What a grueling experience to sit and watch this. It amazes me how in the year 2017 that a television broadcast can be so poorly done. It’s so jammed full of plugs and shilling it really has become quite embarrassing. They shouldn’t even refer to Matt, Savannah and Al as hosts, they’re more like salespeople. There’s not even any new decent camera angles or ideas they come up with. It’s like the folks who put this together stepped out of 1955!

I think the main reason why the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade changed it's image is that ever since Robin Hall retired as Executive Producer of the parade and got replaced by Amy Kule I think that's why Macy's Thanksgiving Parade started to go downhill and since many of the parade's decisions were made by Robin Hall he was the one that made the parade great to watch for families but once Robin retired and Jean McFaddin passed away and Amy Kule became the new producer of Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade I think she made it downhill. Another thing I noticed about the parade is like I mentioned in my beginning post in this thread I think Macy's spends a lot of money to have sponsors do balloons and floats and most of the balloons are mostly mascots for products and to me it's feels like a commercial showcase rather than a holiday parade because there has been balloons of Ronald McDonald to the Honey Nut Cheerios Bee and even Hilton Hotels has a float promoting their Homewood Suites Hotel chain with their Lewis the Duck mascot. What's next? Bullseye the dog from Target. Hopefully Macy's will do better on their parade this November and improve the 4th Of July Fireworks special next month
