The group was formed in the early 50s by Humphrey Bogart. He was the leader of the original Rat Pack. But sadly, Mr. Bogart passed away in 1957 of throat cancer. Other members of the group included: Peter Lawford, Frank Sinatra, Sammy Davis Junior, Dean Martin, and Joey Bishop
Do you happen to remember "The Rat Pack"?

wasn't Shirley McLaine a member for a short time?
And why were they called "the rat pack?"

The name "The Rat Pack" was first used to refer to a group of friends in New York. Several explanations have been offered for the famous name over the years. According to one version, the group's original "Den Mother", Lauren Bacall, after seeing her husband Humphrey Bogart and his friends return from a night in Las Vegas, said words to the effect of "You look like a goddamn rat pack."Rat Pack" may also be a shortened version of "Holmby Hills Rat Pack", a reference to the home of Bogart and Bacall which served as a regular hangout.

Lauren Bacall, Humphrey Bogart's wife at the time, came up with the name when the he(Bogart) and his friends were drunk and she said "You look like a pack of rats"

For some reason, I once thought Perry Como was also a Rat Packer.
