find Chris annoying?

I'm only surprised that you just noticed this. My biggest complaint for years since I first saw it in the '60's is that EVERYBODY yells.:eek: Especially as the series moves on to the second season and beyond. It's a regular yell fest, I'm sure everyone must have been hoarse by the end of the episode filming. Chris is the least of the offenders, at least she's a pleasure to look at and that kind of takes away from the attention on her volume. The entire Lucy Show and her subsequent series' Here's Lucy and Life With Lucy all had one thing in common, EVERYONE YELLED throughout the entire program.

Candy was also doing the Donna Reed show as Jeff's friend Angie somewhere along this time.

I remember seeing Laverne and Shirley when it first on and I felt they were hollering too. Maybe they were told "treat this as a play/ stage type situation.

They yell their lines on All in the Family, too. It was a function of filming in front of a live audience and the audio equipment being less sophisticated back then. The difference is that on AITF, the actors were able to sound natural even when speaking in a loud tone. Candy Moore was not.

Maybe regarding the sound observations, we can consider one of the other early Desilu productions. Gale Gordon was pretty loud back when he did Our Miss Brooks, but the other characters sounded pretty normal (notwithstanding Richard Crenna's high-pitched voice). As Mr. Mooney on The Lucy Show and Harrison Carter on Here's Lucy, Gordon oftentimes came across loudly as well. So some actors do stand out when it comes to volume.

Apparently, Candy recognized how artificial her performances were and tried to down down her delivery, but Lucille Ball wouldn't hear of it. "What's wrong with you today? Up! UP!!!!"

I caught Candy on a "Donna Reed Show" episode today, and she was quite good - trading sarcastic quips with Paul Peterson (one of the best sitcom child actors of the 60s) and keeping up with him. It must have been disheartening for her to give performances on Lucy that she knew weren't good.

Candy can do no wrong in my book. I'm blinded by "luuuv".;) One of the things I have never liked about all of Lucy's shows post I Love Lucy was the loud sickening constant yelling that went on amongst everyone. This bothered me 50 years ago when I watched Lucy on Monday nights and it still bothers me. But honestly I don't notice Candy yelling on the show, she talks a little loud but really no louder than the 2 boys on the show (1st season observances). I think the 1st season of the Lucy Show really wasn't marred with yelling, the second season and beyond is when the yelling fest started. I actually turn the volume down before I start watching those episodes.

Yeah, Lucy ordered the yelling. From this show on, she was a career killer for young actors.

Lucy wanted everyone to project, even though it was not theater and they had microphones. It is one of the reasons that Lucy had almost no voice left later in life.
