Fox Boss: Abbie-Less "Sleepy Hollow" Renewal was "Very Hard"

Is there a "Sleepy Hollow" without Abbie Mills?
Well, technically, yes, since it's returning for a fourth season. But Fox Entertainment President David Madden admits executives weren't sure about renewing the drama at first, given Nicole Beharie's departure after the Season 3 finale.
"It was obviously a very hard conversation. Crane (Tom Mison) and Abbie (Beharie) were the spine of the show," Madden told reporters Monday at Fox's Television Critics Association fall previews.
"It was difficult to figure out whether it was right thing to do to continue or not. The producers very emotionally said, 'We think there is a fourth season of the show and longer.'"
Madden said Fox was impressed by the producers' pitch of "new characters and new situations for Crane to get into."
"If you watched the finale ... it gives you a pretty good clue as to where Crane is heading. Hint: Washington, D.C.," he said. "We think there is a lot of good, new story to tell and that's why we made that decision."
The show will return midseason on Fridays at 9/8c.
