Let's see if I can explain the coverage:

The Olympics are spread out on all the NBC owned networks, so at various times it will be on

NBC
MSNBC
CNBC
USA
BRAVO (who has all the tennis)
NBCSN (NBC Sports Network)
The Golf Channel (who obviously will carry the golf)

The aforementioned basketball game ended up on NBCSN.

Oh, and of course it's all streaming online and on various apps.

US viewers blast NBC coverage of Rio Olympics (https://www.yahoo.com/sports/news/us-viewers-blast-nbc-coverage-rio-olympics-143823017--oly.html)

Welcome to the drama-filled, not entirely live Rio Olympics, NBC-style. American television viewers and analysts are taking the network to task over its coverage of the Summer Games. The problems began with Friday's opening ceremony, which was broadcast with a delay and interrupted with a series of pre-produced segments and interviews -- meaning not all of the actual ceremony was shown.

Also, apparently the volunteers have quit over long hours and not much food.

It was reported than Ryan Lochte and three other swimmers were held up and robbed in Rio at gunpoint in a taxi! :( But this morning my friend was saying she read that it didn't really happen? IDK, a hoax or something?

I actually did read the same day that this story broke, that it wasn't true.
It was then quiet until today.

Brazil wants Lochte's (and maybe someone's) passport, but he is back in the US. It was actually his mother that went to the police. And now it's down to 2 swimmers being robbed, not 4.

So it seems what happened is the 4 swimmers were drunk and trashed a gas station bathroom. Compensation was demanded, which was the "robbery", although the person demanding apparently did have a gun.
