View Full Version : Clip Shows: Love Em or Hate Em
Can someone please tell me why they do clip shows?
They call it a "new" episode, but it's full of bits of old episodes!
I am outraged! Clip shows must be abolished! Call your Congressman! Cast your vote in the poll!
bus_stop 04-22-2002, 10:39 AM I think its a major scamola when they advertise clip shows as new episodes, and for shows I have been watching for years i hate them. But look at it this way, clip shows can help you get familiar with new shows your watching by showing some past moments you may have missed. I know this is a poor excuse but just something to think about.
:D Bus_Stop :D
Chocoholic 04-22-2002, 10:47 AM I don't mind seeing a clip show once in a while. I love to relive the classic moments from a TV show I love. I don't think they should be advertized as new episodes though, because they're mostly old material.
dawsongirl 04-22-2002, 04:29 PM I like clip shows. Sometimes it puts rather routine scenes in a new light.
Central Perk 04-22-2002, 06:46 PM It gives you a recap of funny moments in a sitcom.
TALLguyinKY 04-23-2002, 08:30 AM Man, clip shows are awesome! I don't think they should be touted as "new episodes", but I mean, c'mon---you get to relive some of a series' best/funniets moments. What could be better?
I just don't buy the "can't they come up with new material?" angle. Of course they can, it's just nice to have a clip-show every once in a while. They're sorta like the "family reunions" of TV.
And sometimes in can make somethin' in a character's personality really clinch for you be seein' samples of 'em from different clips all in a row like that.
They're just great, great fun! :)
James 04-23-2002, 01:19 PM When I think of clip shows the first thing that comes to mind is one of my favorite shows, "The Wonder Years". There were not one, but TWO episodes of clips from past episodes. Granted, the first one at the end of the 1990-91 season (before Kevin and his friends entered high school) wasn't that bad, but the one after the 1991-92 season, entitled "Broken Hearts and Burgers" (where Winnie dumped Kevin after she saw him look at a waitress at a restaurant), sucked rocks big time IMHO.
mikenyc 04-30-2002, 03:09 AM "Everybody Likes Raymond" FINALLY did a clip show that worked !
Mixing lovable clips with personal rememberances of real people...especially those of the Howard Bros....really showed some innovation to the concept !
It made the concept come together, up there in the brain, where it's supposed to !
Chad22 05-09-2003, 09:57 AM Their Ok. Sometimes i get annoyed when i want to see an episode with a story and get a clip show, But their not that bad, And sometimes they can have a good story behind the clips. Like in One of Happy Day's Clip shows they have Mork From Mork and Mindy returning to visit Richie.
Crimson and Clover 05-09-2003, 01:28 PM i like them
*PinkLady* 05-09-2003, 05:32 PM I like them myself. It's a good way to see the funniest or most memorable moments of a TV show.
Tuesday Weld 05-09-2003, 06:10 PM I guess I have mixed feelings about them - I like seeing old scenes, but it does seem like they couldn't think of anything else,so.......
Sitcomwriter 05-09-2003, 10:45 PM I love clip shows.
Pitooey 05-09-2003, 11:31 PM I like them too.....
mstewart 05-10-2003, 04:24 PM As long as it's not Family Ties because they did at least five flashback episodes during its run so it's the equivalant of a clip show.
HauntedThunderman94 02-18-2015, 03:57 PM Do you like or dislike them?
70s show watcher 02-18-2015, 08:30 PM they were kind of fun back in the days before the internet but today with youtube and tons of other sites available with endless clips 24 hours a day clip shows seem pointless now
What long running sitcom, let’s say of at least around 100 episodes, didn’t have a clip show?
stevea 04-01-2026, 03:29 PM I don't recall any Two and a Half Men clip shows. I lost track of the show after the Sheen years, though.
Dude111 04-01-2026, 08:20 PM Let’s bump this one up.Yea lets do it Opus!
