View Full Version : Lucy Faithful?

I've read numerous accounts of Desi's philandering with other women, and I know this contributed to his divorce from Lucy. I was wondering if Lucy herself ever had a fling or a relationship while married to Desi--not that I'd blame her. I can only imagine her hurt through the years. Women will do this to get back at the husband sometimes.
It's possible she did and we'll never know. However, I was curious if anyone has any information gathered from biographies or books written on Lucy and/or Lucy and Desi.
My guess is no--such a classy lady who always put her children first.

Well there is that one account of Desi and Lucy fighting right before that divorce and he called her on an affair that she'd supposedly had, or at least a man that she'd been close to in some way. I think the story goes that she was accusing him of not being faithful or something like that and he went back to a drawer somewhere in their house and got out the name and number of some guy that she'd been saving. I think that shut her up right away and no more was said after that.

I'm not sure if I'm remembering that exactly right, but it's something like that. I also don't know the details of who, what, etc., but like you said, I wouldn't blame her if she did indeed stray, after all of the garbage she had to put up with from her husband. I don't usually condone adultery, but in their case I think he went far and beyond any acceptable "limit" if there is one.

Does anyone remember reading anything about her and who was it...George Sanders? Something about her and Zsa Zsa Gabor (who later married him) and them arguing over who loved him more.

I think I read about that in the book "Lucille: The Life of Lucille Ball" by Kathleen Brady. Thats the only place I ever heard of anything about her and George Sanders though.

I found this from the book "Desilu":

"Although Lucille had possibly--perhaps willfully--tried to match Desi's own numerous infidelities during the earliest years of their marriage, it is a certainty in the second decade of their marriage, having weathered motherhood and worldwide celebrity, she was unable to even consider indulging in an extramarital affair, and was horrified at the notion."

Even though Desi cheated on Lucy, I still don't believe that would make it ok for her to cheat on him. I can see why Lucille wouldn't even think about cheating - because Desi's cheating hurt her so much, and it probably wouldn't make her feel any better to go and do the same to him. And it probably wouldn't stop him from doing it either, it would just cause more arguments and give him more of a reason to keep on doing it. It would be like her condoning it.

From what I've read, she was so angry with him when she knew that he'd been with someone else. And he always denied it -- he'd been taught by his father that if he'd been caught with another women, to still deny it! I wonder if, after the divorce, he ever admitted to her that he did cheat on her - even though she already knew it? Did he ever fess up to the fact that his cheating on her was the big contributer to the demise of their marriage and did he have regrets about it? I've read somewhere that Lucy and Desi would have been married forever if she had just overlooked his cheating. But I don't see how anyone could.

Oh, that can't lead to good mental health. She made a good choice. One can only take so much mental abuse.

I remember reading somewhere about the affair she supposedly had with George Sanders, but for the life of me I can't think of what book it was in. She co-starred with him in some movie, right? Was it "Lured"?

Even in one episode I remember he kissed Vivian Vance on the lips (I forgot the episode) but, he looked like he was getting carried away. He was really handsome and he had money, so it's natural for woman to throw themselves at his feet. :talk:
