August 2, 2016
The best is set to come… in December on NBC.
That’s when the Peacock Net will air a two-hour special titled Tony Bennett Celebrates 90: The Best Is Yet to Come in honor of the crooner’s birthday, the network announced Tuesday during the Television Critics Association summer press tour in Beverly Hills.
The special will air Tuesday, Dec. 20, at 9/8c (though Bennett’s actual date of birth is Aug. 3).
The Grammy-winning Bennett, who will perform as part of the special, will be joined by artists including Lady Gaga, Aretha Franklin, Andrea Bocelli, Billy Joel, Elton John, Michael Bublé, Diana Krall, Rufus Wainwright, k.d. lang and Stevie Wonder.
Alec Baldwin, Kevin Spacey, John Travolta, Bruce Willis and Steve Buscemi will also be on hand for the festivities.
“Since we celebrated Tony’s 80th birthday on NBC, it only seemed fitting that we should also stop and pay tribute to his 90th, a true milestone for the greatest living vocalist of popular music,” Robert Greenblatt, chairman of NBC Entertainment, said in a statement.
“Happy birthday, Tony, your achievements are epic and your voice has been the soundtrack of four generations. We and the entire music business are in awe.”
