From ‘The Dick Van Dyke Show’ to ‘Diagnosis: Murder’, from a famously dodgy London accent in ‘Mary Poppins’ to ‘Night At The Museum’, Dick Van Dyke has been a star for nearly 70 years. But his life hasn’t been practically perfect in every way – he has battled alcoholism and suffered the tragic deaths of his first wife and long-term partner. Now 90, he married second wife Arlene Silver, 45 years his junior, in 2012.

I recently read Dicks last book "Keep Moving" an interesting book on how he keeps on living. Having a young wife keeps you up on the latest technology.

I thought Dick Van Dyke and his first wife seperated and divorced. According to his Wiki page, they divorced in 1984.

"In 1948, while appearing at the Chapman Park Hotel on Wilshire Boulevard in Los Angeles, he and the former Margerie Willett were married on the radio show Bride and Groom.[20] They had four children: Christian, Barry, Stacy, and Carrie Beth.[43] They divorced in 1984 after a long separation."

Maybe the couple became friends later on in life.

When was Dick Van Dyke off the rails with his alcoholism? This is what I would like to know about.
