Are they about to take new clients at McKenzie, Brackman, Chaney and Kuzak?
"L.A. Law" co-creator Steven Bochco said this morning on "The Rich Eisen Show" that he and 20th Television are developing a new take on the Emmy-winning legal drama that aired from 1986-94 on NBC.
“Over the years we’ve been asked to redo L.A. Law, but I’ve always said, ‘No, I’m not interested,'” said the 10-time Emmy winner. “One of our original writers, Billy Finkelstein, called me about four months ago and pitched doing it again.”
Bochco said he still wasn’t interested but that the writer reminded him that the kind of law that’s relevant in 2016 didn’t even exist in 1986. “And he’s right,” Bochco said. “So many interesting legal aspects of our society just simply weren’t in play then.”
He said he and Finkelstein sat down and “reconceptualized what L.A. Law would look like and be about 30 years later.” They got a meeting with Twentieth Century Fox TV, whose execs “were very enthusiastic about it — so we’re developing.” He added that they probably will have a script ready in October, in time for next pilot season.
Eisen asked of any other cast members from the original series might be involved. “I think a couple, but we’re not sure yet.”

Nordy 08-01-2016, 10:10 PM I wouldn't be opposed to this. It would be interesting to see what happened with the law firm of McKenzie, Brackman, Chaney and Kuzak

"L.A. Law", the contemporary revival of the Emmy-winning 1980s NBC legal drama, will be redeveloped.
The project, from co-creator Steven Bochco and one of the series’ original writers, Billy Finkelstein, was developed in-house at 20th Century Fox TV and was recently taken out as a spec.
While the initial script was tailored for broadcast, I hear the project now will be tweaked to also target cable and streaming networks.

TV Guy 03-19-2017, 12:53 PM Apparently Jill Eikenberry and Michael Tucker have seen the script and like it, so that must mean that Ann and Stuart are somehow involved. Jill is still beautiful, BTW.
glickmam 07-23-2017, 05:06 PM Well, I don't know, I can't really see them remaking L.A. Law without Richard Dysart and Larry Drake.
Jamey Greek 04-01-2018, 05:32 PM Well, I don't know, I can't really see them remaking L.A. Law without Richard Dysart and Larry Drake.
I hope both Benny and Leland will be acknowledged throughout the reboot. I am anxious to hear more about it!
Jamey Greek 04-01-2018, 05:34 PM I would love to see both Stuart and Ann's son and Abby's son both grown up and working at the firm and/or as lawyers. I would love to see Stuart and Ann's son Matt be played by Oliver Cooper and working at the firm as an IT guy, while Nate Smith can play Eric, Abby's son grown up and a lawyer just like his mom.
Jamey Greek 05-16-2022, 11:41 PM I would love to see the pilot for this along with the 2022 reboot
JamesG 12-13-2024, 11:04 PM I met Corbin Bernsen at Hallmark's Christmas Con and asked him about the "L.A. Law" reboot that didn't go forward. He said, "It was bad, that's putting it mildly. Terrible."
I asked him if anything was filmed and he said, "Oh yeah, we filmed it. Then the footage got destroyed." I don't know if he was serious or joking.

When was that? Was he referring to this version you are talking about or the 2022 pilot?

The Christmas Con event is this weekend (Dec 13-15). I believe he was talking about the 2022 version as I know that it got a pilot order.
I'm not sure if anything was actually filmed for the 2016 version as I saw it was going through script rewrites at the time.

When did you see Corbin there is what I am asking. If it was the 2022 version I had misgivings about it be sure from what I read it was a bit too edgy. I follow Marc Guggenheim on Instagram and he said it went well. But without Bill Fiklestein and Steven Bochco I can see why Corbin was not satisfied with it. The 2016 version I was looking forward to and excited about because of the involvement of both aforementioned men. Steven's death in 2018 hit me the hardest because of that.

I can understand why the 2022 pilot sucked. Especially without Steven Bochco and Bill Finklestein
