More times than we can count (unless one of you guys is a savant) Jack acted as though he was flirting with or hitting on Janet, Terri and, occasionally, Cindy. What do you think that was about? Was it a running gag played solely for laughs? Was it a humorous release for sexual tension? Or did it depend on the roommate/circumstances?

Note: Chrissy doesn't count. She is in a category on her own because Jack had a serious romantic interest in her for a while. Early in TC, the writers were clearly trying to replicate the will-they-or-won't-they dynamic between Robin Tripp and Chrissy Plummer from the British series (unsuccessfully in my opinion).

I think at first it may have been to relieve the sexual tension....I mean, the girls were always fretting about "what people would think," so the idea of them having sex was always hanging around. So I think Jack would sort of take the weirdness out of it by directly addressing it and joking around.

Mostly I think it was for laughs, though. And don't underestimate how many jokes were there to remind the audience that Jack was a "manly," virile male who liked women. Without an audience or laughtrack, some of his joking around comes across as a little creepy.

I think Chrissy should count, too...We really only see his interest in her in the first two episodes. Then the writers abandoned that story line.
