View Full Version : Antenna TV looking at possible Antenna TV classics channel
brtcmfn 07-27-2016, 01:29 PM http://www.tvnewscheck.com/article/96496/diginets-keep-growing-despite-auction-cloud
"Encouraged by the success of its first multicast network, Antenna TV, Tribune Broadcasting is cooking up another, Antenna TV Classics.
It would specialize in “the older-skewing shows,” says Sean Compton, president of strategic programming and acquisition for the station group. The original Antenna TV would then be free to recalibrate its lineup with shows to attract younger viewers, he says.
If Tribune goes ahead with the new channel, it will reaffirm the fundamentals of the multicasting business, which converts low-cost, but well-known movies and TV shows, into modest, but steady, revenue streams and profits for the diginets and their affiliates"
Svenfan1234 07-27-2016, 01:35 PM Wow. This is kinda exciting having a second Antenna TV station. What would be on it? Shows from the 50s-70s and then the other one having one from the 80s and 90s? Regardless, this is exciting
Crusinforabrusin 07-27-2016, 01:51 PM Sounds like a good idea. Antenna TV could air programs from the 50s-70s and the new Antenna TV could play 80s-90s shows
Svenfan1234 07-27-2016, 01:53 PM I think it'll probably replace This TV
BigManMike 07-27-2016, 01:56 PM Bad thing if it crunches credits like its original counterpart.
Crusinforabrusin 07-27-2016, 02:01 PM I think it'll probably replace This TV
Hope so. This TV isn't all that great anyways
Svenfan1234 07-27-2016, 02:09 PM Hope so. This TV isn't all that great anyways
That is true.
Crusinforabrusin 07-27-2016, 02:13 PM That is true.
They have In The Heat Of The Night , though which is good, but not enough to make that channel worth watching. Antenna TV Classics sounds better and that's why I hope it replaces This Tv
Crusinforabrusin 07-27-2016, 02:15 PM Bad thing if it crunches credits like its original counterpart.
Who cares about credit crunching? I'm just glad to be able to see some of my favorite shows. I honestly don't pay attention and nor do i really care about credit crunching.

I like In The Heat of the Night too- Gettv airs it if you get it every Weeknight at 6 and 7.

I used to care but I thought about how it was more important to see my favorite Antenna shows than it was to concern over something like that.

Totally agree! ;) :)
Zoneboy 07-27-2016, 02:59 PM Who cares about credit crunching?
Many do care and won't watch for that very reason including myself.
Crusinforabrusin 07-27-2016, 03:04 PM Many do care and won't watch for that very reason including myself.
Really? Just because the end credits are crunched means you won't watch a show? Wow.
Zoneboy 07-27-2016, 03:11 PM Really? Just because the end credits are crunched means you won't watch a show? Wow.
That and voiceovers during the credits annoy the hell out of me. I'm not crazy about logos on the screen either, but I can live with it.

I do agree with the voiceovers they can be annoying at times
MrCleveland 07-27-2016, 04:15 PM I hope that the classic Antenna TV station shows shows from the 50's to the early 70's.
Then the other Antenna TV, they should show these shows...
Mr. Belvedere
Family Ties
Gimme a Break!
Facts of Life
Silver Spoons
Who's the Boss?

Amen
What other shows of the 80's and 90's could they show?

Mr. Television 07-27-2016, 04:41 PM Probably won't make a difference because I probably wouldn't get it. It took me forever to get Me-TV.
Really? Just because the end credits are crunched means you won't watch a show? Wow.
Hey, to each his own. No need to be so judgmental about it. I'm not a fan of the practice either...it takes away from the show as a distraction IMO.
pkripper001 07-27-2016, 08:32 PM My biggest distraction is a logo you can not see thru.
It is not so bad if the logo is there and you can see thru the logo.
I call it ghosting the logo when you can see thru it.
Another problem is when the logo is not even in the corner of the screen.
Duster76 07-27-2016, 09:20 PM Ouch! Haven't we been down this road before, anyone remember Nike At Nite spinning off TV Land. Now look at the two of them.
"The original Antenna TV would then be free to recalibrate its lineup with shows to attract younger viewers, he says". Imagine that, a channel that's interested in attracting younger viewers, how unique, and not a moment too soon.

That's what I'm thinking of. Antenna TV will go to the dogs and the classic channel will be on very few cable systems.
Crusinforabrusin 07-27-2016, 10:13 PM That's what I'm thinking of. Antenna TV will go to the dogs and the classic channel will be on very few cable systems.
Nah I don't think so. Antenna TV is doing good and I don't think they'll ever change their format
Svenfan1234 07-27-2016, 10:54 PM Nah I don't think so. Antenna TV is doing good and I don't think they'll ever change their format
I think that This TV will be gone and Antenna TV 2 will be where This TV was.
Crusinforabrusin 07-27-2016, 10:57 PM I think that This TV will be gone and Antenna TV 2 will be where This TV was.
Do you know when it will replace This Tv?
Svenfan1234 07-27-2016, 10:58 PM Do you know when it will replace This Tv?
I don't. But IMO, it's much needed but I hope that this doesn't mean that they'll dump the movies on Antenna.
Crusinforabrusin 07-27-2016, 11:01 PM I don't. But IMO, it's much needed but I hope that this doesn't mean that they'll dump the movies on Antenna.
Are you referring to the movies on This Tv? If so I hope they don't either
Svenfan1234 07-27-2016, 11:05 PM Are you referring to the movies on This Tv? If so I hope they don't either
Yes I do mean that.
BigManMike 07-27-2016, 11:10 PM Does anyone know does This TV crunch credits too? I don't have This TV anymore since I lost it to Grit at the beginning of 2015.
BigManMike 07-27-2016, 11:12 PM I don't. But IMO, it's much needed but I hope that this doesn't mean that they'll dump the movies on Antenna.
I don't like movies on Antenna either but if their cheaper than sitcoms I wouldn't mind having some on there if that meant they didn't have to crunch the credits even though I wouldn't watch the movies.

When the end credits occur, usually they compress the entire screen which makes it very difficult to read the credits

Or worse: screen compression. I've seen movies on Antenna TV where the entire screen is compressed making the movie weird to watch
Svenfan1234 07-28-2016, 10:23 AM This is a joint venture between MGM and the Tribune Company which owns Antenna TV, so Antenna can't just move This out.
However, the same guy who runs Antenna runs This, so they can do it if they so please. MGM only provides the movies, Tribune actually runs the channel.

And if the network wants to, they can take the MGM movies from This Tv and start airing them on the new channel.
MRPITT 07-29-2016, 10:45 AM Nah I don't think so. Antenna TV is doing good and I don't think they'll ever change their format
Isnt that what this thread is about. Sounds very much like a change in format.
Has anyone noticed that in most of the commercials shown on Antenna, someone is either dead, dying, or at best, very sick?
BigManMike 07-29-2016, 08:12 PM Has anyone noticed that in most of the commercials shown on Antenna, someone is either dead, dying, or at best, very sick?
That doesn't bother me nearly as much as the credit crunches do.
Bonniegirl 07-29-2016, 08:27 PM The animal abuse commercials are really sad! The elderly, sick or dying people commercials don't bother me nearly as much as the animal abuse commercials!
Duster76 07-29-2016, 09:30 PM It's ageism, instead of cowering in fear you would think the so-called "Woodstock" generation would kick up holy hell. We have money, we buy things, new cars, houses, computer equipment for example, and we spend plenty of money in stores. Companies might appreciate that more if we spoke with one clear voice and decided to stop spending money in certain stores and on certain manufacturers. It might motivate some goodwill spending. We're older, we are not all huddled in our kitchens trying to figure out how to pay for final expenses, or riding stairlifts.
One of the most worthless organizations is AARP, they should be leading the fight against ageism instead of sitting on the sidelines. I wouldn't join that organization if they paid me.
icecream 07-31-2016, 11:24 PM The only way I would want this split to happen is if I got both channels.
mistermike 07-31-2016, 11:30 PM The only way I would want this split to happen is if I got both channels.
Same here. Which probably isn't likely.
mets82 08-01-2016, 05:38 PM Antenna is ok. I don't like the credit crunches or the fact they don't take commercials in the right places but if a show I like is on, I'm going to watch it.
Becca3557 08-01-2016, 10:02 PM The only way I would want this split to happen is if I got both channels.
Totally agree! Although I must say FIOS here in the Philadelphia area has been pretty good with adding channels. We have most of the sub-channels and I watch most of them at one time or another. We could lose Laff though and I wouldn't cry over that. I haven't seen much improvement in its programming since we first got it. We watch Antenna, Decades and Me-TV the most.

Hi
What other shows of the 80's and 90's could they show?[/QUOTE
Considering how they want to attract younger viewers, I am worried they are going to show programming from the 90s on. As long as it sticks to its pre 90 shows we should be fine
Crusinforabrusin 08-04-2016, 06:53 AM Has anyone noticed that in most of the commercials shown on Antenna, someone is either dead, dying, or at best, very sick?
All time. I am particularly sick of The Liberty Car insurance commercial and those law firm commercials
TVFactFan 08-04-2016, 09:30 PM I am all for it since my local news interferes with Antenna TV 1:o
BigManMike 08-04-2016, 09:39 PM All time. I am particularly sick of The Liberty Car insurance commercial and those law firm commercials
The commercials have nothing on that awful credit crunch. I can put up with the commercials they show but not the credit crunch.
Crusinforabrusin 08-04-2016, 09:56 PM The commercials have nothing on that awful credit crunch. I can put up with the commercials they show but not the credit crunch.
I can stand the credit crunching but watching endless repeats of the same 4-5 commercials everyday 200 times a day is something I can't stand
MRPITT 08-04-2016, 11:45 PM I can stand the credit crunching but watching endless repeats of the same 4-5 commercials everyday 200 times a day is something I can't stand
Credit crunches suck, but I will still watch the show if there isn't a better alternative.
I didn't realize people still watched commercials.
Coffeecup 08-08-2016, 04:37 PM I watch a few of the old commercials on Buzzr Network and get a kick of the ?Anacin head ache ads which feature a woman who making dinner and her mother mentioned the food needs more salt. The young woman snaps " MOther I can cook myself" . Makes me think we can be still upsets today.
Svenfan1234 06-07-2017, 11:04 PM I wonder what's happening with Antenna TV 2/Antenna TV Classics?
brtcmfn 06-07-2017, 11:09 PM I wonder what's happening with Antenna TV 2/Antenna TV Classics?
They are probably waiting till the channel repacking get's under way from the auction, and/or now that it's owned by Sinclair the launch maybe be on hold (Just a guess);)
Please make this happen. I am sick of the credit crunches and the same old commercials every single time.
tlc38tlc38 06-08-2017, 09:10 AM I wish it was MeTV that was getting a "classics" channel. I still can't get Antenna TV with Directv.
stevea 06-08-2017, 02:23 PM Who cares about credit crunching? I'm just glad to be able to see some of my favorite shows. I honestly don't pay attention and nor do i really care about credit crunching.
You may not, but a lot of people do.
MikeLutton 06-08-2017, 03:12 PM i can not stand when shows are letterbox makes the show so hard to see you know got mess with the tv put it on stretch or wide
BigManMike 06-08-2017, 06:46 PM I sure hope Sinclair ends the credit crunching.
stevea 06-08-2017, 10:29 PM Yeah I'm banking on that too. As I've said before, it's gotta be expensive to do all of that. I hope all their junk ads make up for the cost.
Jamey Greek 06-09-2017, 02:21 PM I sure hope Sinclair ends the credit crunching.
Me too. Tell you now I miss the hell out of Night Court and Murphy Brown on Encore Classic
Coffeecup 06-14-2017, 10:27 AM i can not stand when shows are letterbox makes the show so hard to see you know got mess with the tv put it on stretch or wide
Yes, I have to do that with Grit channel. Put the screen on wide.
Jamey Greek 07-03-2017, 12:21 PM I do agree with the voiceovers they can be annoying at times
A hell of a lot better than the credit crunchers though! I'd take a voiceover over a credit crunch anytime!
BigManMike 07-03-2017, 04:48 PM A hell of a lot better than the credit crunchers though! I'd take a voiceover over a credit crunch anytime!
Same here, as long as the voiceover doesn't mute the music or get louder than the music then its fine.
