Syfy has renewed IDW comic book adaptation "Wynonna Earp" for a second season for premiere in 2017. The pickup was announced today during the show’s panel at San Diego Comic-Con.

Season 2 will consist of 10 episodes, down from its 13-episode order for Season 1.

Syfy last year acquired the Canadian drama series based on the IDW Publishing comic created by Beau Smith. It stars Melanie Scrofano as Wynonna, Tim Rozon as legendary con artist Doc Holliday, and Shamier Anderson as the mysterious Agent Dolls.

A modern supernatural Western, the series follows Wyatt Earp’s great granddaughter as she battles demons and other supernatural beings and uses her unique abilities and a dysfunctional posse of allies to bring the paranormal to justice.

Wynonna Earp returns for Season 3 having established a close bond with its fans, known as "Earpers" (https://www.nytimes.com/2018/07/06/arts/television/wynonna-earp-syfy.html)
The relationship between fans of the Syfy horror western and the show is so intense that there are fan conventions happening London, Toronto, Minneapolis and New Orleans, which is very good for a show that's only been around for two years. Syfy also finds Wynonna Earp to be very valuable because more than half of its viewership is female, which is rare for the male-skewing Syfy. “That sense of perseverance and fighting against all odds is relevant right now,” says Syfy president Chris McCumber.
