I am having to go through things that are old and have been stored for some time now (years). That, of course, kicks up dust. It makes it hard to breathe. Other than opening a window I'm not sure of any tricks to make it better. I can try Fabreeze and see if that helps.

I have an Ionic Breeze Quadra and it does a great job collecting dust, pet dander and other allergens. It has a permanent collection grid so you don't have to buy filters. It's very easy to clean and can be done with a damp cloth. It's recommended that you place it near the center of your home and to clean it at least every 2 weeks. It's also whisper-quiet. It's actually so quiet you might not think it's working but it is.

You could try a painter's mask (or a breathing mask that has filters on the side) or even a hospital mask.

I'm also going through a bunch of stuff-some of it I know is 60 years old-- according to the newspaper it is wrapped in.

You might try Pledge dust spray if the area can be sprayed, or a swiffer duster.
