Floriana Lima, who played a lesbian lifestyle blogger on ABC’s "The Family", has copped the role of "Supergirl‘s" Maggie Sawyer.

In DC Comics lore, Maggie was introduced as a captain with the Metropolis Special Crimes Unit, which handled superpowered menaces. One of the first openly gay characters in mainstream comics, she has long been associated with Superman titles as a highly skilled member of the Science Police, a division of the police department that deals with metahumans.

On The CW’s "Supergirl", Maggie will be a National City Police Department detective who takes a special interest in cases involving aliens.

Season 2 premieres Monday, Sept. 10 at 8/7c.

Well, this doesn’t bode well for "Supergirl‘s" season-ending proposal.

Floriana Lima, who achieved series-regular status in The CW drama’s second season as Detective Maggie Sawyer, will return for Season 3 in a smaller capacity, TVLine has learned.

“We adore Floriana and have loved working with her to tell this inspiring story,” executive producer Andrew Kreisberg says in a statement.

“Although she’s not available to us as a series regular next season, as she’s looking to pursue other opportunities, we’re happy she’ll be returning for multiple episodes in Season 3.”
