Jennifer Esposito is eyeing a return to the CBS procedural fold via "NCIS". Sources confirm to TVLine that the "Blue Bloods" alum is joining Season 14 of TV’s most-watched drama in the series-regular role of Special Agent Alexandra “Alex” Quinn.

An experienced NCIS agent who left field work and became an instructor at the Law Enforcement Training Center, Quinn is lured by Gibbs (Mark Harmon) back into the field as part of his team, where he will take advantage of her sharp wit, quick mind and immense talent as a federal agent.

Meanwhile, TVLine has confirmed that Sarah Clarke — who boarded the CBS juggernaut last season in the recurring role of Special Agent Tess Monroe — will not be returning.

“We couldn’t be happier to have Jennifer Esposito joining us for Season 14,” said EP Gary Glasberg in a statement. “She embodies everything that we hoped for in the character of Quinn and we can’t wait to have her come be a part of our team.”

"NCIS" kicks off its 14th season on Tuesday, Sept. 20 at 8/7c.

Jennifer Esposito Leaves "NCIS" after 1 Season

Jennifer Esposito‘s tenure at "NCIS" has come to an end. The actress is leaving the CBS drama after one season as a series regular, our sister site Deadline reports.

Esposito joined the show’s cast in last fall’s Season 14 premiere, playing NCIS Special Agent Alexandra “Alex” Quinn. An instructor at the Law Enforcement Training Center, Quinn was lured back into field work by Mark Harmon’s Gibbs.

The character of Quinn was conceived by former showrunner Gary Glasberg shortly before his death last September.

According to Deadline, the show is going in a new creative direction for Season 15. During last month’s finale, Quinn received two unexplained calls from her mother, which might account for her absence next season.

Esposito called her time on "NCIS", “a great experience. I could not have asked for a better opportunity than to work with the NCIS cast and producers.”

Somebody call Faye Dunaway because she's been usurped. This B list television actress continues to find work for now, but everybody who has the misfortune of crossing her soon comes to the conclusion to that she is an absolute nightmare to deal with. 'She rarely lasts on shows because of her behavior,' says one source. 'Producers end up writing her characters out because she's a horrendous person.' 'It's heartbreaking to read that she's been cast on your show,' whispers another. 'The only silver lining is you'll read about her departure under a year later.'
