Interesting, KISS' first three studio albums were barely a blip on the radar until the "Alive!" album, since the first albums did not do justice to their explosive stage sound captured on their 1975 groundbreaking double-live forte. Well, actually, "Alive!" was not so "live" as the title implied--only the drums were captured from live performances while the rest of the instruments allegedly were "doctored" in the studio. Have to look more into that--but hey, it worked: it was this album which started the whole slew of live albums in the late 70's, such as "Frampton Comes Alive" and "One More From the Road" by Lynyrd Skynyrd.
After that, everything did finally click in the studio with the Bob Ezrin-produced "Destroyer" which gave us a ton of hits as well as "Love Gun". Ever since it's been a sort of hit-and-miss, but still a lot of great songs from each album and era of KISS. In 1977, it was all about KISS and little else for those of us who were teens!!
