Kevin Smith has a theory that, broken down to its simplest terms, for a show with a 21 episode TV season, you'll find seven fantastic episodes, 7 okay episodes, and 7 lousy episodes. Agree?

Depends on how big of a fan you are of the show in question.

For me, I can only think of 3 or 4 extremely weak (yet somewhat still enjoyable) episodes of Mama's Family.

I agree. It DOES depend on how big a fan you are. I can't think of an EIght Is Enough episode that I thought was awful; I enjoyed them all and treasure some. Same for WINGS.

Re your fav show, yeah it's hard to imagine a BAD Mama's Family ep-practically all were a hoot. Esp. when you put Mama and Eunice together!

I loved the one where Eunice punched the cop in the nose and she and Mama were put in jail! And the wedding one!

One of my all-time favorites is WKRP, which ran for about 90 episodes. Now, I have my favorite episodes, and there were quite a few that just weren't very memorable, but they were still entertaining. I don't even think I can recall seven unwatchable episodes from the entire four seasons. There's maybe three or four at most in my book.

For me, that applies to WKRP and several other sitcoms.

For me at least, every TV show I watch I'm bound to find at least 1 or 2 lousy episodes per season. No matter how much I like the show, I always manage to find lousy episodes each seasons. But the majority of the episodes of TV shows I watch are either enjoyable or at the very least entertaining.

I've never heard of that "rule" but no I don't agree with it. If you're a big fan of a TV show then you're going to like all or almost all of the episodes. But then I'd say for me every sitcom I've ever liked probably had about 2 or 3 episodes that I thought were lousy. But that's certainly not seven.

I don't agree with the Rule of 7 at all. I think there are some seasons better than others and typically it's the last season (before it goes off the air) that is the weakest. But I think if a show is on a roll, most of the episodes will be good. I think the quality seems to be even most of the time.

It certainly was with Eight Is Enough; God I adore that show!

If I have to go to a desert island, and I'm only allowed five shows, EIE would DEFINITELY be one of them!!!

Any true Gilmore Girls fan knows that Season 7 was the worst. Although Seasons 1-6 yeah that seems right 7 episodes that were really good.
