I have a hard time choosing between the 1970s or the 1960s as televisions best decade.Both were excellent overall.The 1970s were musics best decade in my opinion with the the 1960s a close second.

The 70s had the best music, I agree. The main reason I like the 70s? Videotaped in front of a studio audience. Beats being filmed in a studio with canned laughter added later anytime.

It's why growing up in the 70's was so great. In the daytime you had the syndicated reruns of the 1960's shows and at night you had the 1970's shows. The best of both worlds.

I think overall that every decade up until 2000 was good for television. For example, the 50s had I Love Lucy, The Burns And Allen Show and The Twilight Zone. The 60s had Mannix , Leave It To Beaver. The 70s had All In The Family, The Mary Tyler Moore Show, M.A.S.H. The 80s had Cheers , The Cosby Show, The Golden Girls . The 90s had Frasier And Seinfeld. Every decade after 2000 didn't have what the previous decades had: Good television. Of course there are exceptions like Everybody Hates Chris and Curb Your Enthusiasm but they're fee and far between

Being born in 1976 I only was able to see 70's TV in reruns but I really enjoyed the crime shows. Barnaby Jones, The Streets of San Francisco, Cannon, Police Woman, Hawaii Five-0, Kojak...all had a roster of talented actors and actresses with a lot of tense, tight-gripping storylines. But the 1980's was also a great decade for shows.

I fully agree...it seemed that by 1997, stations and entertainment weren't in it for the quality...they were in it for the ratings and $$$!
