I love it because you never know what you will find in there. There are a variety of things Thrift stores have to offer. You are guaranteed to find something you like every time you visit one. And just the overall atmosphere at thrift stores feels "at home" or "comfy". That's what makes me love shopping at thrift stores.

Not for a long time. And for two reasons: 1-I worry about something at the thrift store having bed bugs and 2-these stores have also gotten very expensive-at least here in NYC

I love it and it's been very profitable.

Didn't we have a thread going on about this subject a short while ago? Or am I imagining it?

Thrift stores as in Goodwill/secondhand? Not so much! But I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE dollar stores and Big Lots type discount/ bargain stores!

I like dollar stores and Big Lots (especially the discount racks) Big Lots also has great prices on chips and other snacks and many are brands that you may not find in your local grocery store.

No, you aren't imagining it. A similar thread ran a few weeks ago. I used to really enjoy used book stores, but I can pretty much find everything I want on Ebay or Amazon these days.

I'd go to a thrift store if I was hunting for used furniture, the non upholstered variety, but not anything cloth related. I'm far too concerned about bed bugs. I donate seasonally to my local Goodwill, because they will take anything without complaint. I made the mistake of actually going into the shop once (donations are in the rear) and the smell from the shoe aisle nearly knocked me over!

There's a thrift store in my area that offers TV Shows and Movies for FREE! omg: Most of the time what they offer is something I either already have or just doesn't tickle my fancy. But nonetheless I find checking it out every month, because I do find something good from time to time. :D

Where my mom and I sometimes go shopping is at Dollar Tree and we sometimes find neat bargains and stuff not found anywhere else and Dollar Tree is just so fun to look at and Mom and I just love dollar stores. My aunt used to like Big Lots and she introduced my parents and me to it because we had never heard of Big Lots before and my aunt used to buy some toys for my cousins when they were little and occasionally she still shops Big Lots. And Big Lots is where I would get my music cds for real cheap and some of my movies and cartoon DVDs too. I like bargain stores because you'll never know what treasures you'll find in them

Me too!!! I LOVE Dollar Tree and 99c Only stores! ;) Such good bargains and so much fun shopping there! I'm sad because the Big Lots that was nearest to me closed down about 5 years ago!:( But if ever I'm in an area that has a Big Lots, I like to stop in! ;)

NEVER pick up a piece of furniture at a flea market or a yard sale. I had to learn this THE HARD WAY. I had a run in with bedbugs a few years ago, and I traced the source to a chair I had purchased at a yard sale. Some bargain, NEVER AGAIN. :angryfire

Do you ever go to the American Cancer Society's Discovery Shops? They are great thrift shops and they have good sales on books and more amazing stuff

I love shopping at thrift stores. I can get something that no one really needs or nice clothes.

I live across the street from a thrift store!

I agree with you 110%. If you see some fantastic chair or sofa lying on the street-you've got to wonder WHY someone would throw it out.

I once did break down and buy a cute umbrella at a stoop sale. But I immediately put it into two plastic bags and tied them securely. As soon as I got home I took it out in the bathtub and completely sprayed it with rubbing alcohol. I wasn't taking ANY chances.

I've heard these are great places to buy books, but I've never really been to one before, even though there are a lot of them near us.

There are certain things I never buy at rummage sales, thrift shops, garage sales that is shoes, pillows, underwear, cloth type furniture. I have bought blouses, vests, sweaters, pillow cases, sheets I usually pass on for they look very well used and I don't want a see through sheet. I tend to go for clothes. Also I like to run the items I bought through the wash. I wonder how clean it is and also how many people have tried it on before I bought it.

I'll go to them to browse and if there's something that catches my eye, such as old gas station maps, I'll take it.

I actually went to a second-hand store only yesterday. I was looking for some shorts, but none was big enough for me. So I ended up buying some books instead.

They all seem to smell of dried sweat. I hate the smell for the first few minutes.

But, you can find some real treasures.

I had a T shirt collection that went on and on...many from Goodwill. No asmell at Goodwill but yes at Salvation Army. I spent the last few years getting rid of those T shirts and many went back to G.W.

Has anyone heard of Savers? That was another thrift store chain that my mom and I used to shop at a lot and they actually had cool stuff like $1 music cds and some $2,99 movies and even $1,99 VHS tapes too. Savers is also known as Value Village and they were a neat store

I bought the complete series of Bullwinkle and friends on DVD for $2....didn't look like the DVD's had ever been removed from their spindles.

The local county historical society published a two volume set of local county history, that were large, very nicely done books, which they sold for $500.00 for the set....which I found at a Salvation Army store for a buck apiece. I swooped.

I still have a $300 digital camera that I bought for $18 at S.A....12 years ago
