View Full Version : That Norman Lear marathon scheduled for tomorrow is CRAP!!
TVFactFan 07-02-2016, 03:32 PM Why the **** would there be more eps of Good times than any of his shows???? And to make it worst 4 of the episodes of Good Times being shown is the 4 parter about Penny:o
Antenna TV could have done without this sh**** marathon
3pm-All in the Family
3:30pm-All in the Family
4pm-Maude
4:30pm-Maude
5pm-Good Times
5:30pm-Good Times
6pm-Good Times
6:30pm-Good Times
7pm-One Day at a Time
7:30pm-One Day at a Time
8pm-Good Times
8:30pm-The Jeffersons
9pm-Maude
9:30pm=All in the Family

I know which is why the marathon is A$$
BigManMike 07-02-2016, 05:08 PM It also seems strange there are no Sanford and Son episodes and only one Jeffersons episode, yet 6 Good Times episode. I already quit watching this channel long ago because of credit crunching but it seems their programming decisions are just as dumb and give me even more reason not to watch it.

a SH*THON is more accurate:lol:
Svenfan1234 07-02-2016, 05:17 PM It's only 5 GT episode. And it's because of the documentary coming out about Norman Lear
tlc38tlc38 07-02-2016, 05:37 PM I do agree with Lear about one of the episodes. The episode of Maude, "Maude Bares Her Soul" is my favorite of the series.

I only plan to watch the first episode of All in the Family at 3pm, 8:30pm episode of the Jeffersons and the 9pm episode of Maude
tlc38tlc38 07-02-2016, 05:53 PM ^Sounds like a plan to me.
I can't get the channel so I'm watching several episodes of Maude and All in the Family from my DVD collection.
It needs more One Day at a Time. Then we're really talking about good times.

TVFactFan 07-02-2016, 06:09 PM YES!!! Seasons 5, 7, 8 and 9!
They should have included the episode with Ann doing the Hustle lol

Yeah! That one with Robbie Benson where Ann was flirting and dancing with Julie's date was really good! :D There are several eps. that I thought were better than the ones Norman Lear likes best! I wonder what his reason for being partial to that 2 parter when Ed ,the Father returns? And it's not the ones where Ed gets drunk either. They were better than the ones Mr. Lear likes! ;)

I'd rather him choose the Melanie suicide one, or the Cliff becomes a father one. Those were in my Top 5 ODAAT episodes. But the Hustle one is good too.

Yes those were good ones! ;) Julie's wedding, Miracle of birth,Dear Max and Nearness of you would have been good choices too! ;) :D

Bonny I am still shocked Lear's favorite eps of good times were the Penny abuse eps:crazy:

What about Sanford and Son?

ODAAT > Good Times
TVFactFan 07-02-2016, 09:37 PM What about Sanford and Son?
He is the creator of S&S but not the producer so many it's only the shows he produced

Too bad, IMO, Sanford and Son is a trillion times better than Good Times.
What's really a shame is that the Jeffersons only gets aired ONCE in this marathon? The Jeffersons is the BEST Norman Lear show IMO.

the marathon should have been 8.5 hours to balanced everything out
3pm to 4:30pm.......All in the Family
4:30pm to 6pm........Maude
6pm to 7:30pm.......Jeffersons
7:30pm to 9pm.......One Day at a time
9pm to 10:30pm....Good Times
That way each show would have had 3 eps

TVFactFan 07-02-2016, 10:04 PM I agree 100%!
He doesn't seem to like the Jeffersons as much as his other shows lol
installLSC 07-02-2016, 10:25 PM I wonder if there was ever any chance of airing the rarer/less seen ones: Hot L Baltimore, All that Glitters, and for that matter the "Mary Hartman" universe.
ODAAT > Good Times
You're preaching to the choir here:)
Hearing an artist's favorite edition of their personal creations is usually bad entertainment because artists take their art seriously and their favorite creations are never the funny or light-hearted ones but the serious ones with a deep message. So I've learned not to even care what artists think about their art. Artists usually have different objectives than I do. I want to laugh, they want me to think deeply about serious problems. No thanks.

The only eps that are not serious tomorrow is the 3:30pm episode of All in the family and the 8:30pm of the Jeffersons
Svenfan1234 07-03-2016, 05:21 PM My ranking of the Norman Lear sitcoms: (Sanford and Son wasn't a Lear show, so it doesn't count, only Bud Yorkin produced and developed Sanford and Son)
Best first:
One Day at a Time
All in the Family
Maude
The Jeffersons
Mary Hartman, Mary Hartman
Good Times

tlc38tlc38 07-03-2016, 08:09 PM I was able to watch the 3:30 episode of All in the Family, "Lionel's Engagement"while I was at work today. I've never really liked this episode mainly because of different actors playing Helen, Tom, and Jenny. It just seems weird.

This is why shows like Diff'rent Strokes have been, and remain, permanently ineligible for my DVD collection-- too many of them seemed to be "Very Special Episode" message shows.
tlc38tlc38 07-03-2016, 09:33 PM I don't really mind the "very special episodes" so much as long as they're entertaining.

That episode is hilarious. Btw, did you notice that the guy who played Tom Willis seemed to have stones? I mean he wasnt written as a goof like I think Franklin Cover was sometimes.
glickmam 07-04-2016, 11:58 PM The biggest problem is that entertainers really have no special insight into society, and usually actually have a very skewed point of view. The shows that asserted they could educate as well as entertain ended up being the ground floor for development of what's become known as low information voters.
Low information voters? What is that?
