Watching season 5 it's kind of odd, Eddie, Lumpy and Gilbert appear with their locks close cropped in a few of the episodes: Wally's Big Date showcases Eddie and Lumpy's new do while Beaver's English Test and Beaver's Long Night shows Gilbert with the sides and back down to practically a clipper number zero.
I wonder if those episodes were filmed early in the season and the supporting cast members were treated to a new studio barber shortly before filming?
I picked up the 1997 Beaver film recently and watched it for the first time since it opened. With their 90s haircuts the film certainly didn't capture the feel of the series. I was thinking if the film were done now while most men wear their hair shorter (kind of like Lumpy's in big date), you'd have a more accurate look.
I've always liked the late 50s/early 60s styles. Part of the appeal for me of LITB.
