The term used for these shows is spin-off. But I'm referring to Archie Bunker's Place, Mayberry R.F.D., Three's a Crowd and The Golden Palace. Those were shows that came after the original series and continued the stories of many of the original characters. In the case of Archie Bunker's Place it feels like All in the Family but where the focus shifted to the bar. I believe that if The Andy Griffith Show was titled something like "The Mayberry Show" when Griffith left in 1968, instead of changing titles and calling it a spin-off, the three seasons of Mayberry R.F.D. would just have been the later seasons of that show. The Golden Palace is just The Golden Girls without Dorothy and set in a hotel.

My point is... all of the parent shows to those spin-offs have been released on DVD. Why the heck haven't the spin-offs (or in the case of ABP and MRFD more than their first season)? I feel like those shows aren't complete without them.

The one that puzzles me the most is The Golden Palace. With the success of The Golden Girls in reruns and the love of Betty White, why is that show not available?

I want to one day sit down and watch the pilot episode of Andy Griffith - as part of The Danny Thomas Show then go into all eight seasons of The Andy Griffith Show, followed by all three seasons of Mayberry R.F.D. and top it off with the "Return to Mayberry" movie. But I can't until they release seasons two and three of Mayberry R.F.D..

I know. And with the shows I want completed MOST (Diff'rent Strokes, Rhoda, One Day at a Time, & St. Elsewhere) are all continuation series/parent series/by Norman Lear.

St. Elsewhere confuses me though. It's the same guy who made Hill Street Blues, which has a complete series, but not this?

A show that confuses me why it isn't on DVD is "Empty Nest." I mean, why not? "The Golden Girls" is, and isn't "Empty Nest" the spin-off as well?

I think you'd very likely feel the same way about Dallas (1978-91 original-recipe) and its 1979-93 spinoff Knots Landing. All of original-recipe 1978-91 Dallas is on DVD (the series, the TV movies, the lot), but only 1/7 of Knots Landing (2 of 14 seasons' worth of that) is on DVD. That baffles me no end, as I'm sure it would you.

It baffles me too.
