one thing about this show has bothered me for years. How come Monica & Chandler consider themselves married when they "got married" by Joey who thinks he got "ordained" as a priest over the internet???AND SO DOES EVERYONE ELSE!!!!
I mean; I know it's just a sitcom and not everything is supposed to be believable but C'MON!!!!

I think that the audience is supposed to buy the notion that the service that ordained Joey really did have the power to licence him as a minister who really could perform a wedding ceremony.

I actually think this is possible. I know several people who have been ordained over the internet that have officiated weddings...

It's not that uncommon. Google "wedding officiate" and you'll find several places who will do this for a fee. A friend of mine who is a teacher did this through a mathamatic-based website ( I couldn't make this up if I tried) simply so that a school admin whom he despises not only has to address him as Doctor Smith (Ph.D in Mathematics), she now has to call him The Right Reverend Dr. Smith. Yes, he does have too much time on his hands, but he's also now allowed to perform weddings. My husband and I are considering using him when/if we renew our vows for our 25th.

Joey also officiated Phoebe and Mike's wedding in season 10.
