View Full Version : Who was a fan of PBS Kids' early years?
Svenfan1234 06-11-2016, 12:53 PM I was definitely a PBS Kid from probably 2002 to about 2007 or 2008. Then they stopped being good IMO.
I loved the promos, the bumpers, and the P-Pals!!! I also really loved the Teletubbies. Barney, Sesame Street, Dragon Tales, Clifford, Zoboomafoo and Sagwa and I was just a PBS Kid and I miss those memories of watching PBS Kids in the early to late 2000's. I still enjoyed "Martha Speaks" but there's nothing I like right now.
Vahan 06-11-2016, 12:58 PM Reading Rainbow and Mister Rogers' Neighborhood were the best of the bunch for me.
Crusinforabrusin 08-26-2016, 03:51 PM Ever since I was a little one, I'd watch Clifford The Big Red Dog, Sesame Street, The Magic School Bus, yes even Barney. I still have an appreciation them but I don't watch them anymore
I just saw this thread. It might be a bit old, but so far I only see replies from people who say they recall PBS programming from the 1990s.
I really would like to find a certain PBS show that was from the 1960s.
Mr Rogers was around back then (I think), Sesame Street started in the very very very late 60s or early 1970s. "Zoom" must have been in the early 70s.
Also "Hodgepodge Lodge." There were certain programs who's name I cannot recall but "Reading Rainbow" sounds familiar.
There used to be certain hosts of children's programs and I think one name
was "Jane B Cheeney." I know there was a TV show which a woman who had a short Buster Brown type haircut talked to the camera telling kids about different things such as how your digestive system works.
I have gone to the library to look at old newspapers with TV listings to see if I can find the name of the show, but I only see that the TV listings of that time (the very late 1960s) just had it mentioned that from about 10:00 AMto about 3:00 PM there is "children's programming" which prevents me from looking up the names of the old educational children's TV shows of that time.
Does anyone have some kind information about those old PBS TV shows of the mid to late 60s to the early 70s?

I know there was a 90s Zoom too that ran till the early 2000s. Loved that one. Also part of my childhood.

Yes to all of those but I don't know if my local PBS station carried The Magic School Bus post-2002.

Yes. Sesame St and Mr. Rogers were both good times.
Svenfan1234 04-19-2017, 09:35 PM Anybody here watch Wishbone in the 90s/early 2000s on PBS?
mrbaconclay 06-06-2017, 02:14 PM I was a fan during the 90s and early 2000s. I used to watch PBS when I would get sick and had to stay home from school. This was the only good channel we had for me as a kid to watch when I was growing up in grade school and middle school. I do agree that PBS is not as good now as it was when I was growing up.
Who remembers the various bumpers and promos that they did?

I do! Pinball, elephant, racetrack, Jack in the Box... It was great.
PhoenixAcres 06-06-2017, 05:39 PM Anybody here watch Wishbone in the 90s/early 2000s on PBS?
I did. It was a good show but it seems to have disappeared completely these days.
I also remember watching Reading Rainbow, Mr. Rogers, Sesame Street, Zoom, and Teletubbies around that time.
Wasn't there also something called PBS Go? It was like a branch of PBS Kids in the mid-late 2000s. I remember watching Arthur and Cyberchase in their after-school blocks.

PBS Kids Go yes. I loved it. Arthur, Postcards from Buster, Cyberchase and Maya & Miguel! And later Fetch, which I also loved!
2000-2006 in particular were great with PBS Kids.

And the early seasons of Curious George and Martha Speaks. Those were great too.
OMG!!
You are talking about the PBS programming of far more recent times.
I am talking about the PBS programming of at least the mid to late 1960s.
No one have memories of that?
I do! Pinball, elephant, racetrack, Jack in the Box... It was great.
I agree. I found a bumper that I haven't seen in years a couple months ago.
Does anyone remember the ITVS kids spots? There were a whole bunch of them that were made.
mrbaconclay 06-07-2017, 02:47 PM Anyone here used to watch Zoom? I loved that show growing up.

I love Sesame Street. It isn't the same anymore. The blocks theme song and the dancing city end credits were my childhood.
Modeste 05-14-2019, 11:49 AM Me, I loved it. Anyone remember the You Are The New Day song on the commercials between Arthur and Wishbone?
Schmoopie 09-15-2019, 05:50 AM I still watch Sesame Street on occasion and right now I'm watching a DVD collection of Mr. Rogers.
Mr. Television 09-15-2019, 08:54 AM These are not the early years. I was a fan in late 1960's through the 1970's. lol
